It's the Video 3, almost to the end.
I'm not sure what I understood is correct (fast spoken American English... sheesh)... what does he say about Sailor Moon? I'm pretty sure it's not a good thing... he talks about a project (or something else, I didn't understand this part) and company getting in the way or something... could anyone explain what's this part of the interview about? Thanks!

Someone off camera originally asked him about anime releases and the changes that are sometimes forced on the company who releases them. He was going on about EVA and name changes and so forth.

The interviewer then brings up cutting episodes to which a gentleman out of view pops up and mentions the cut Sailor Moon episode cuts and how some were not allowed to be released at all. He just goes on to explain that they were sub-licencing from another company and that they were told specifically not to release those episodes, subtitled or not. He says that they begged Toei until the last minute to allow them but they refused permission.

He also mentions specifically that Sailor Moon in general has been handled illogically in the West and he is not exactly sure why. He then finishes up by saying he doesn't want to say anymore since he has to go to work with the people involved in some of the decisions.. rantipole

He talked about a lot of the things that I remember were going on during the last few months of SOS before everything went down. Essentially, a question came up about cutting episodes out of series and someone else jumped in saying for example seven episodes out of Sailor Moon. Matt said that they had sub licensed the series from another company (which I am assuming is either DiC or Cloverway) and that company had it sub licensed from TOEI and it was TOEI's decision that those episodes were pulled. Then he went on to say that they fought for the rights to add those episodes until the last minute but it was TOEI that said no. Then at the beginning of the fourth video he says that he has to respect what the company says because the property is their baby. He goes into reasons why other companies say they want episodes pulled etc.

What really struck me though was this quote "Sailor Moon has not exactly been handled in a logical manner in its release in this country". Which is basically what everyone has been saying for years but, just the tone of frustration and disappointment with this really stood out.

Sigh, that TOEI... I wonder why they don't want Sailor Moon to be licensed and DECENTLY distributed abroad.

Do we have any idea what they are fighting about?

Maybe Naoko has heard about the butchering and changes done to Sailor Moon and she doesn't want to risk that happening to her creation again.

Maybe if the company doing the translation talks to her directly...

or maybe that's the problem.. they can't legally.

But didn't Matt say something about Toei wanting them to make certain edits and cuts?

Either way, unless someone in Japan talks, there's no way to know for sure

Well, Mixx may suck, but I don't think they'd actually lie...

Wouldn't it be illegal to claim she said stuff she didn't actually say?

It's actually possible to visit Naoko? I'm serious....I would love to visit her, with you guys of course.

Nah let's show up on her doorstep and surprise her! Hopefully she'll invite everyone in. And then we'll spend the night and stay up watching the anime or PGSM and playing Sailor Moon Monopoly (unless they didn't invent that. You can buy Silver Millenium, Crystal Tokyo, and all those places but instead of being sent to jail, you're sent to Nemesis. And the playing pieces are items that they use). And in the morning we'll have waffles and then head to Tokyo Tower to look for evil villains to battle. We'll end the day parading around Tokyo and jumping across rooftops dressed as Senshi. Actually that does sound fun!

Heh, I wouldn't blame her if she did that, if the translators are as good as DIC's "translators." Probably for her own good so she doesn't go insane and attack them telling them how they ruined her beautiful series. Then she'd get arrested and we would all cry.

As I continue to live in Japan, you come to realize that Japan has it's own logic sometimes.

I want to go to Japan and look around and be like "Cooooooooooool, I'm in Japan!"
