+5 points for spelling out "IMO".

I totally agree. But there are times when they are given the good episodes to animate... and they do a really dodgy job... One of my fav key animators are the ones who do the chibi-ish style, like such that did the episode in the first season when Sailor Venus arrives.

Thank goodness they didn't do any of the movies.... and i'm sure for that reason.. :P

Sadly, that crap animator (Taichi Nakamura) did the "Make-up!" special at the beginning of the R movie. There wasn't much to animate, though, so it was okay, I guess. He didn't animate for Stars, so that's good. :)

The "chibi-ish" animator (Masahiro Ando) is okay. I'm not a huge fan of his, but sometimes he did episodes pretty cutely. :) Though, I had a problem with how he or she did feet and mouths. :rantipole:

My favorite two animators were Shin'ya Hasegawa and Ikuko Itoh (especially from the first season).

I wouldn't have a clue who animated which bits, but I always thought the important SuperS episodes looked great - the last one, in particular, looked gorgeous.

Whoever animated the second half of the Sailor Moon Classic final is my favorite. All of Sailor Stars acts were very nice too!

I like Itoh's style the best too. But I HATE that Masahiro Ando. He/she has to be my least favorite of all of them. I can't stand the faces. They look awful! I actually think Nakamura's style is much better. Especially since I just looked at your links and saw that Ando made the first of the Usagi's pure heart two-parter episodes (I could not enjoy that episode as much as I should have because of the crappy animation) and Nakamura did the second one, which looked beautiful in comparison.

 I love the faces for Masahiro Ando's animated direction. The eyes always look awesome and I like the face shapes. Sometimes the drawings are a little off, but I guess that's what happens sometimes when things are rushed. I also like Ikuko Ito's episodes.... I think though that the ones that are closest to the style used for the transformations and attacks are the best of all of them.

In my art I use a similar style to Masahiro Ando as you can see from my avatar. P-:

I'm not terribly fond of Masahiro Ando, myself. I'd probably have to go with Ikuko Ito, partially because she did Princess Tutu as well, and that's one of my favorite series ever.

Ikuko Itoh, without any doubt!

Other favorites of mine, are Kazuko Tadano (from the earlier seasons) and Katsumi Tamegai. I like Taichi Nakamura, too.

I think Masahiro Ando did some really nice episodes on the first season. But I'm not very fond of him/her. I especially dislike Ando's episodes on Super and SuperS >.<

More than likely. Names ending it -ro and -rou are more often than not strictly male names.

Hearing a chick being called 'Masahiro' would be pretty weird, yeah. But not as bad as a guy called 'Masako' or something.

Ah, I didn't know who the animator was at all when I first typed it. I then went and looked them up and forgot to change the him or her to the correct one. My bad.

I don't know who the animator is but these are the kinds of faces that bother me soooo much:

That would be Masahiro Ando's work. :)

EDIT: You know, there was a scene in episode 164 where Nehellenia had the Golden Crystal and her hand looked hugging horrid! Ando drew that shit. I included a scan of the 7th Supers R2 DVD that had the picture. EWW!

There is no question in my mind that Ikuko Itou is the most talented of any artist who worked on the Sailor Moon series.

She was most notably responsible for episodes 45, 46, 68, all the important S episodes, and all the important SuperS episodes. Her work is very easily identifiable.

Junichi Sato (the director for the first series of Sailor Moon) and Ikuko Itou have worked together on other series, such as Mahou Tsukai Tai! (Magic User's Club), as well as Princess Tutu. I've never seen Princess Tutu, but I have to confess most of my desire to see it is because they were in charge of direction and art, respectively.

Ando is hugging horrible. His art is awful. The man just does not draw very well, unlike Kazuko Tadano and Katsumi Tamegai, who are both very talented, but I am not very fond of their art.

I adore Shinya Hasegawa's work in the Utena series. Gorgeous~

I have to go with Ikuko Itoh as having done the best animation of all in the Sailor Moon anime seasons & movies. :)

Ando is horrible? don't you mean Nakamura is horrible. He was the worst of the whole series. not Ando..

Although Ando wasn't the best... the animation was simple (very cartoony) and when it came to doing difficult angles, he had it made. So according to your statement, you think Ando was the worst? well if you take a look at this comparison... it appears that Ando does a MUCH better job than Nakamura. I would really have preferred Ando do all Nakamura's episodes than have Nakamura do them at all...

From an artists point of view, Nakamura's style and drawing quality is quite a low standard, whereas Ando has a great cute style, but the quality lacks in some shots/episodes. Of course the key episodes are going to look better... I assume they spend a little bit longer on those to make them look great, and it shows (that and the skills of the animators of those episodes). I'm think of comparing all the style in an image to show everyone the differences in style. :P

In that Ando picture it looks like Usagi's head would simply fall off that tiny neck with a particularly strong gust of wind.

Have you even seen the Manga... Not to mention the animators of Stars. Most of the time their necks and limbs are way too thin! Anyways, Just trying to get across that Ando was not the worst of the Sailor Moon animators. I really like the work done by Ito on episode 166 of SuperS. Brilliant face shots of Sailor Moon.

Nakamura is the worst, but Ando couldn't do difficult angles. Look at the picture I supplied earlier. Yeah, he did it, but not very well at all.

I appreciate his works, coz at least he attempted those different angles. Unlike a lot of the other artists that use the same angles all the time. At least Ando's work is fairly proportioned compared to some of the others. I'm just attracted to his style I guess... and I think it looks alrite even when he does those weird angles... I just enjoy the eyes, frown creases, and the face shapes are always so curved and almost perfect looking. Ito still rules though! hehe

I'll referrance you to my picture of Nehellenia, again. What's up with his breast cleavage lines? He makes it look like there are several folds there! He does that a lot, too! It's something that has always annoyed me.

The cleavage lines did annoy me in the past, but I've just come to realise that's just part of his style... Where others use one line and shadow colour, Ando decided to almost sketch the shadow colour with linework... It just seems a lot of his work is rushed.

Rushing is not an admirable thing.
