When you're little and are asked the "What do you want to be when you grow up question?", you probably shouted out something like an astronaut, president or doctor. But let's say that you stumbled onto a time machine one day and were given the chance to meet with your five year old self for a day. Assuming that nothing bad will happen to either your five year old self, you or the space/time continuum, what would you say to your five year old self? Do you think that your five year old self would be happy with how you turned out or would do their best to do everything in their power to not become you?

..............

Obviously, there would be some things that I wouldn't tell my younger self about. I can only imagine how a five year old would react to my love for tasteful Yaoi images.

But in this story, the Prince ends up with the other Prince...and they live happily ever after...

When I was five, I was convinced that I was Chinese since I liked Chinese food. I think my chibi self (CS) would be amused to find out that I ended up with a Chinese guy. I can't remember what I wanted to be when I was five - I probably gave some generic answer. So I don't think my choice of career would have upset my CS and I'm pretty sure my CS would be thrilled to know that I still like cute stuff, and cartoons.

If anything, I'd probably tell my CS to never give up no matter what life throws at you. I'd tell myself that you'll meet a lot of cruel people along the way, but also some good ones as well. I'd tell my CS to continue working on your ability to read others (Bunny is quite the psychic...) no matter what some old fogey at the church says. And above all, to always tell others how you feel for them. I learned that pretty early in life - sometimes people are there one day and gone the next, so, it's always best to tell them (in addition to showing them) how you feel.

Aight, I've had my say. Now it's your turn.

I'd tell myself to take that left turn at Albuquerque, just for the reaction. :P

Quality thread.

Chibi Nevermind would probably be asking how the hell did you get involved in law and econ/finance along with politics when you were supposed to love dinosaurs (yeah Gojira) or some other shit that I wanted to do. What I'm doing now never once crossed my five-year-old mind.

Chibi Nevermind would also wonder how the hell he grew up to be such a dominant personality, even though he always was active and somewhat dominant, though he could be awkward at times. Chibi Nevermind was also not nearly as sharp-witted or charismatic as he became.

The one thing that stayed with him was his creativity and imagination.

Not a lot would change at all except few things. My younger self would be more energetic and more imaginative than me now. I would tell him to save money a bit and not to totally spend it on crap games especially ones that going have a next version coming out. I don't know anything else what I would expect to tell a 5 year old me other than that and he's more active than me.

I think he expects me to be a game designer/artist but right now I either wanna be game/animation designer or become an astronomy.

Interesting. You would have made such an excellent paleontologist...

Anyway, I think my CS won't be disappointed with his FS(future self) at all, though he would not want to talk to me and throw a tantrum if I bother him further. I was a wild child back then and during my younger days, I was nicknamed "Rattlesnake" for good reason...

I would tell my CS to loosen up, be a nicer person, be a better student (especially in 5th grade and high school), and don't let the little things in life bother you.

I'm not sure that my five-year-old self would know what to make of me, although she'd probably be pleased to know that I still draw and play the piano. However, she would perhaps be vaguely disappointed that I am not, in fact, a ballerina. I don't think I was thinking much about what I wanted to be when I grew up at that age, but like many little girls, I did enjoy the idea of being a ballerina. More than anything, though, I think I probably just wanted to be a mermaid. :) I lived in my own strange world back then.

I've actually entertained a similar idea to this in the past. In my case, though, I've wondered what my pre-teen self would think of me. I guess because I was old enough then to have a clear idea of who I was and what I wanted to do, but young enough that quite a bit has changed since then. I wanted to be a marine veterinarian or marine mammalogist, because the idea of working with and helping marine mammals was highly appealing. It still is, but I ended up deciding on a career in art instead, which would not likely be surprising at all to my younger self.

I think younger me would be a bit appalled by some things, though. While my sexuality has never actually changed or wavered, I was happily in denial about it until my last year in junior high (and even then, it was a struggle to accept it). I come from a conservative Christian home, and my family was very clear about their views on homosexuality. My younger self would not be happy about that. She'd be extremely upset by the fact that I'm not a Christian, and probably torn between bemusement and horror by my preoccupation with slash fanfiction. :p She'd be disappointed that I'm still dealing with many of the same health issues that had only just begun for her. And it would be best not to mention my teenage years altogether, because I don't think my younger self would be able to handle that. ^_^'

If I were to offer any advice to my younger self, I'd probably tell her to not accept anything as truth simply because she was told to, and to always keep her mind open and curious. I would tell her that she is better off just being herself and not wasting time trying to be something she's not to fit in with other people. Finally, I'd probably advise her to be careful about who she chooses to trust, and not to take everything at face value.

I'm debating whether or not to write something up, because I'd probably treat my chibi self horribly and yell a lot...

My younger self wanted to play video games all the time, and that's what I'm doing right now, so nothing has changed, except manga has been added to it.

She'd be disappointed that I'm not a nurse. ^_^' And in awe that seahorses exists. (Chibi kikyo thought that seahorses were mythological creatures)

Funny, I answered all those three :P
And I'm still going for the doctor, I guess

I don't know what I should do to her. ^_^' Really. I'd tell her to be more careful while running in the woods, but I couldn't do anything else but to pity her for what she is going to experience. It'd be a disaster if I took her with me, even if I very much would like to.

I really love this thread. ^_^ The funny thing is that I think like this all of the time. Most of the time when I'm making decisions in my life, I think about what 5 year old me would have wanted and if she'd be happy with who/where I am in my life now. As a kid, I never knew what I wanted to be when I grow up (I still don't, to be honest) but I think half of the fun is figuring it out and thinking about all of the possibilities. Overall, I think little me would be happy because I never really set specific expectations for myself. I just hoped that I would be happy and feel good about myself.

I think looking back, I would tell myself not to take things so personally. I had a lot of heartbreak when I was growing up over things that weren't meant to hurt my feelings. ^_^'

I'd want to go back to when i was in middle school and had the sailor Venus doll i got from a thrift store.. and tell myself not to give it away..

This is why i say that since there was a short time when i did like sailor moon.. and i didn't have cable so i had nothing to feed my liking of it and at some point it gave to doll away :( < this isn't part of what i would say to myself  it's a side note :ninja:

I had a lot of Sailor Moon dolls, house sets, wands, stickers and all those goodies when I was a kid..

I would also tell myself NOT TO THROW THEM AWAY because it'd worth a fortune now.. :dead:

Hmmm..... I'd probably tell my younger self to never go out without a fight, question everything and accept nothing. Don't take everything for granted, because everyone has a hidden agenda, and that there is nothing that can't solved with a good friend and a lot of pizza.
Also, STICK WITH THE DAMN GUITAR!!!!

If my five-year-old self met my present self, I think her reaction would be like this.

My five year old self would think I'm the most boring person ever for not having become a fireman. I would probably tell my five year old self to keep that temper in check and not let the other kids provoke him.

This reminds me of that episode from Family Guy, where Stewie was disappointed on how he turn out to be as an adult. He was mad at the fact that he was still a virgin, so he try to force his adult self to have sex.

I would tell tiny-me to NEVER STOP DRAWING. You will NEED that skill in college (and likely) beyond.

Of course, I never did stop drawing... but maybe that's because I went back in time to tell myself not to stop? ;)

The only thing I'd want to say, my five year old self would probably forget it before it became relevant.

If I met my five-year-old self, he would think I'm mean because of how sarcastic and cynical I've became over the years. (With him being much sweeter than I am now). Also he'll be surprised how a bit more social I am and how I'm starting to grow out of my shyness. But one thing I would tell him is don't stop playing outdoors... :P

I'm going to be honest: she'd probably spend the entire time we were together asking me about how time travel works. I was a rather inquisitive kid.

All the national lottery winning numbers for last twenty years. Having these I would do better than with any preaching about life and happyness. :mischief:

I think my five year old self would be happy I still love cartoons, although she would not understand the concept of anime, as I didn't even watch anime until I was about 7 (Pokemon, Astro Boy, Sailor Moon and YuGiOh for examples). But there's some stuff I wouldn't want to tell my 5 year old self, like my parents are separated, and 2 friends of mine died, and that my life is now miserable. I don't think my five year old self would believe that I now like eggrolls and Chinese foods, and that I don't like Spaghetti O's anymore, and I doubt she even knows what sushi is (which I love now, mmmm!)

My younger self wanted to be an artist. And a writer. I'm still mediocre at both at best, though with my rather protective upbringing that I no longer regret, one thing has remained since then. Lots and lots of video game playing. As a child I used to read more, but as an adult I don't read as much. With my recent visual novel interest though, I've read a lot more. And started to draw again with pleasing results. I don't mind anything I do, cause while a lot of people are out getting drunk, screwing around, doing drugs and what not, or gang banging or whatever, I can just sit back and chill with a game. To this day I'm one of the most misunderstood people.

I would tell my younger self one thing though. Never, ever pick up an interest in cat girls. It will save you a very troublesome 6 years later in life. Toasty!

Nah man. I ended up meeting someone online and things really didn't turn out well. Wouldn't have given her screen name a second thought if I didn't have that little passing interest. Not only that but she had a friend that ended up being even worse. Ah, it's a good thing I recovered from all that. Meanest girls on the planet. As I always say...
