Okay, remember when I posted the pic of the Precure/Galaxia comparison...well. They did it again.. I really need to stop going to the Precure LJ

It's a conspiracy...

Except the characters are completely dissimilar in their story roles and personality. She bares a far stronger physical resemblance to Umi of Magic Knight Rayearth, yet her personality is the opposite. There are only so many realistic, comfortable looking poses that the human body can do. Her pose is just vaguely similar to Hotaru's and part of her hair is the same length. I suppose my Mew Zakuro figure must be a ripoff as she is in a pose similar to my Sailor Uranus one by your logic.

Even the Precure and Galaxia comparison really wasn't so strong that I would call it a reference. That felt more like coincidence. I mean it is the ONLY time Precure saved the big bad rather than kill it. It also did not involve the Pretty Cures just taking attacks like Usagi did, they constantly attacked the entire time.

Well, I always regard the Precure anime nowadays are just parodies of various earlier magical girl shows. l o l

Pretty Cure references and pays homage to earlier magical girl shows. It does not parody them. The closest it gets is to hanging lanterns over certain tropes.

I might've half-jokingly exaggerated it, but all in all it's just a matter of degree.

The earlier Precure anime are relatively more original, tho.

I love Pretty Cure, as much as others hate it. I just love the setting and the focus on girls (though I HATE the graphics of Heartcatch. They're so ugly >>)
But I think Toei's running out of ideas and is probably just ripping off other animes that they done.

I don't really mind though, since I love both Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure.

You know, I worked on a long post detailing the similarities and differences between Pretty Cure and various magical girl series. In an attempt to point out that while references are clearly made, the seasons that contain them are nowhere near similar enough to be ripoffs. Then I realized, I'm talking to stone walls when it comes to this.

You can't say Precure is an exact copy of previous shows, of course, nor can one say it's got not a bit of originality at all - as I've said above, it's all a matter of degree, which's a relative thing.

I'm pretty sure they're allowed to recycle their own poses and stuff.

That goes w/o saying.

I used to say it's even worse to copy from one's own works than copying from others', as you might still have a chance to learn something new while doing the latter.

I'd actually be interested in reading this, not because I need to be convinced, but because it sounds like a good read.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I've seen tons of cover artwork from reading Marvel comics. They pretty much do the same thing.

I, personally, follow Precure very closely. I do not see much SM references. It's a magical girl anime, so it certainly follows some stereotypical aspects, but the characters are very much different. Besides, SM has a variety of characters (even the bad characters have some background/history). Precure is more concentrated on the Cures themselves. IMO, constant comparing SM to PC has no sense, because they're 100% different besides both are about magical girls.

Two girls standing with their arms to their sides, looking straight ahead, with plain everyday short hair? PREPOSTEROUS. OUTRAGEOUS. This has never happened before in the history of artwork! There must be some vile art thief at work here...

That Saturn is an official art, & I think that Precure is, too - someone has just placed them together side-by-side. l o l
