Well this is bullshit. While one of my panel suggestions got picked none of Lilly's got picked AFTER the head guy said "We will have some sort of "Sailor Moon THING" at Otakon this year.... thanks a bunch.

The only shimmer of light is this..

Quote:
I need to confirm one more possible guest (or pair of guests) on Monday or Tuesday.

I'll be posting a list of webcomics folks who'll be attending Otakon as "featured webcomics".

And I'll know for certain monday whether we were able to persuade a certain editor to allow a certain manga-ka to come. That's by no means certain -- manga-ka are famously overworked, and even the most popular title sells at most a small fraction here as it sells in Japan.

So there WILL be a manga-ka at Otakon and guest or pair of guests. And I doubt very much that they'd make me a "featured webcomic" but I can always hope.

I'm really sorry to hear that Lilly-chan. It definitely makes me less interested in attending Otakon.

This is a very disappointing list. I looked at the panels list, and a variety are of the same type as well. And this is not limited even to Sailor Moon getting overlooked, are there any anime specific panels at the con other than Gundam and DBZ. By the way Otakon, Sailor Moon is just as prominent as those series are. So why is it that Otakon has been avoiding Sailor Moon so much lately? Anime Boston has had a panel two years in a row, Anime Next had them, I can't speak about other cons, but why is the biggest con on the east coast avoiding one of the major animes ever? This is a very disappointing list.

At Anime Boston there was so much to do things overlapped. If I was at Otakon I'd apparently have nothing to attend other than maybe one panel.

I know Otakon staff work very hard, and I can't understand how their end product is this list. Every con I've ever been too including 3 Otakons, has had a better lineup then this.

It is very disappointing. I kinda feel silly going off, because I know con staff work very hard to make things work, but I don't know what to say...even if I wasn't a fairly obsessed Sailor Moon fan this lineup is really tough to fathom.

Well I don't know if I dug myself a hole.

Lilly and I were on AIM and she said how another member noticed there were THREE AMV panels with all the same type names. What the hell is the difference between AMV's 101, How To Make AMV's and AMV's the basics?

Right after I posted some other asshole comes on saying "You can whine all you want that your panels didn't get picked but they have the final say! It's protection from keeping you in a room by yourself for an hour!'

Well guess what? For the last two years there's been Sailor Moon panels and while they didn't pack the room with people there were plenty of fans there even when they did put the panels on at REALLY crappy times.

Hopefully they will see some mistakes because Lilly was one of the first people who requested a panel and it being the 15th Anniversary of Sailor Moon SHOULD MEAN SOMETHING.

(Screw these here today, gone today anime fans. I'm sick of them)

I didn't know they had a panel last year, but I know in 2005 the room was pretty filled and I'm not sure but I think the panel was opposite something major as well.

I just hope Otakon staff doesn't go on the defensive too much and deals with the questions reasonably.

And by the way, that person posting about how no amount of complaining will affect anything obviously is wrong. There is always possibilities of changes, and what would they suggest, if everyone at the con was displeased with the panel selection they shouldn't say so because it wouldn't change. That's somewhat silly. Congoers by paying for registration, i.e. paying to make the con happen, have the right to ask what is going on and state if they are not satisified. Con staffs should welcome such comments in public or private.

Lilly, read this NOW

Quote:
ATTENTION!

If you received a pre-approval notification from Becky for your panel, and your panel is not on the list on the first page of this thread, please E-MAIL (do not PM!) your name, your panel's name, and its description with the subject "OTAKON 2007 PRE-APPROVED PANEL" (caps-lock optional) to panels@otakon.org

If an email from your group with the requested information is not received by midnight tonight (6/18 ), your pre-approved panel will not be re-considered.

Well I sent her a message just in case. It would appear that Otakon messed up in the lists, so I guess I'll have to reserve judgment until the final list comes out.
Of course some con staff went on the defensive as usual. Others were seemingly trying to fix the problem.

I really dislike the mentality that because people work hard, they're not allowed to be criticized if something goes wrong.

Hopefully they will resolve this.

I do find it surprising that they rotate panels and such, suggesting they're running out of space, which is a bit of an issue since the con center isn't getting any bigger. It looks like this debate is as much about philosophy on what should be at a con, over what an organizational mistake.

If you like to read her message its hear--> http://board.otakon.com/viewtopic.php?p=149689#149689

I will stay up tonight until 11pm for an email back. Hopely I will receive something very soon. As soon as I find out something Jay I'll let you know.

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!!

My Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Fan Panel finally has been approve for Otakon this year! So those that plan to be at Otakon feel free to stop by. I should be receiving the location/date/time in the next week. As soon as I get that information I will post it here! As for my other panel- Naoko Takeuchi Fan Panel it was not approve for this year. Anyways just wanted to make a quick update to let everyone know.

~Lilly-chan
PS: Jay since the Naoko Takeuchi fan panel wasn't approve. I'm working out a place in the PGSM panel for you and Yomoon to talk about the "Warriors of Legend: Reflections of Japan in Sailor Moon". Thats if you plan to come?!

That's great news! : ) :D

I apologize to the Otakon people for misjudging them. Originally it had seemed like they had released a final list, but since it came to light that it was incomplete and all I apologize for being so critical. The lineup looks much better (and that's even beyond just letting Sailor Moon in.)

That's great Lilly, I'm really glad to hear your hard work paid off.

I can't give you an answer on attendance yet, I need to hear when the panel will be and then speak with Jon about it. If I came down to Baltimore from CT it'd be to say hello to everyone at the panel and meet with Jon; I have to look up how much it'll cost me to get down there and weigh that against the panel and Jon's schedule.

Let me know if anybody needs a place to stay. My friend has another room booked at the Whyndam and we only have four going so were going to have to cancel the room if we can't get anybody to stay there. We also have room for a fifth person to drive down the cost in our current room, so if you want in, please PM me and I'll talk to my friend Ray about rooms.

Yeah I'm really tempted to try to get down there, but the expense is a ton these days. Now if they moved Otakon say..up to New England. :P heh I'm there. Still I continue to look into the matter. : )

Thanks! Yep as soon I as I receive an email back I will post the day and time. Here is a most recent post from the panel head---> http://board.otakon.com/viewtopic.php?p=150251#150251 It looks like I might hear something by the end of the week. (keeping my figures cross!) When I first applied I requested for Saturday morning, lets see if I can get that slot.

If your able to make it TM Chibi that would be great! Thanks for the advertisement on your site about the panel! The most that I had in my panels have been around 25-30... who knows what Otakon has in store! I do want to get a some pictures, so if there is some that is going to the panel and is willing to take pictures on my digital camera that would be great!

thanks!

If I'm there (and that's a big if) I'd be willing to video tape the panel and make it available for people to view online.

hehehe! WOW I would love that! Also the staff of Otakon has a video camcorder in each panel room video taping all the panels. Thats why they are having us fill out waivers (adult or minor) and bring them to the con. But the only different is that we would be able to view the one that you have; Otakon keep an archive of their video that they review. I haven't heard if anyone else has view those videos.

Anyways as soon as I hear anything I'll let you know first.

A clue?? I asked about the "Manga-Ka" guest to be announced and the head guy had this to say...

Quote:
Unfortunately manga-ka are the hardest of all guests to get.

Both of the anime directors have extensive storyboard experience and one of them has also done character design.

Yes, I have announced all the guests...sort of.

I'm working on a manga-ka, and have been since March, but negotiations hit a bit of a snag due to her schedule, and it might not happen. If it doesn't, we'll have to try again next year because it'll be to late to do anything this year. And if it does come through (I should know by July 4 at very latest), I'll announce it ASAP.

I'll probably announce a handful of other dub actor guests who Industry will be bringing in on their own, but whic h we'll help promote a bit. That'll happen a bit closer to the con.

So it's a woman...but WHO!?! Dear god who! Please let it be her!!

It COULD be her, because he said "Since March" and I posted my thread on the boards on March 24th...so who knows!

I really wish we could do something to get her to come, but since were nothing more then fans I doubt it, it's all up to the people at Otakon with the big bucks.

(Lilly, I sent you an email, please let me know if you got it!)

Hi Everyone!

Well I have not received the location/time/day yet for the panel, but I will post the information here first as soon as I reach it. (I'm hoping very soon! Since the con is like 2 weeks away!)

Also I have an announce for those of you that are planning to go to Matsuricon in September (7-9) this year both of my panels- Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Fan Panel and Naoko Takeuchi Fan Panel have been just confirmed/approved (6/30/07)!!! As soon as they give me the location/time/date for both panels I'll post them here. For more information about Matsuricon please go to their website at http://www.matsuricon.org/ !!!

Moon Jump- Yep I received your email! I really wish the manga-ka is Naoko Takeuchi! But I don't think it would be her...

Quote:

As far I know or I could be mistaken that Takeuchi-sensei isn't working on anything unless it's for her website. (Or someone update me if I'm totally wrong and that she could be working on some new work) But I really wish this manga-ka artist that they mention is Takeuchi-sensei! Since this is the 15th anniversary of Sailor Moon it would make sense to have her come over! (The last time she came over for a con was back in 1998 at the San Diego Comic-Con 98', but Wikipedia mention that "Takeuchi-sensei is an avid traveler and has visited the United States many times." which I want to know if this statement is true, because sometime wikipedia can be wrong in their information since you have so many users updating information there.)

Only 2 more weeks for Otakon! I'm so excited! For those that are going to be there we will be running the PGSM Trivia Contest with prizes (very good/raw prizes)!!! Hope to see you all there!

From what I know (and that's not saying much) I think Naoko has been to America three times. First time, of course is when she went to Florida to go to NASA, there's pictures of her with a guy in a space suit.

Then in 98' she went to Comic-Con, and from what I remember reading on SOS that was handled very poorly. The Q&A session sucked and the translator was asking the audience questions about WITCHCRAFT. (I wish I was there personally rather then quoting crap off of SOS)

And the third time I heard from a guy two years ago at Otakon. That she went to New York on vacation to go shopping. So unless she just comes to America on vacation she's only made one public appearance at a convention.

From what Jim said he'll find out Wednesday at the latest if the Manga-Ka is coming, if not they'll try for next year. So best just to pray if it IS her that she does come, because there's still NO "Guest of Honor" for Otakon this year.

I think I might faint if it's her. T__T

I will keep an eye out for the PGSM panel! It will be on my to-do list, though being my first con, I can't guarantee I will have any idea where I'm going and when. @_@

Uggg, it's not Naoko. First he said...

Then he answered me back by saying..

So there you have it. Naoko was already at Comic-Con so it'd be her second. Unless he means first Anime convention, which I doubt it because I wouldn't say "first con".

Hopefully it will be somebody good, unlike last year were they had a manga-ka who did a comic NOBODY knew about.

Well, I tried.

Well you never know. Actuality Naoko attended the "1998 San Diego International Comics Convention". Since San Diego's Comic Con is not an anime related con... it might be "her first con anime con or first con in 9 years". I'm just going to wait and see who they announce.

Anyways today I received an email with the panel time/location/date. Here it is!

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Fan Panel
Date- Sunday July 22, 2007
Time- 9:00am - 10:00am
Location- Panel 4 (Ballroom 2)

So attend if you can make it. I know its on the last day of the con, but at least we were able to run the panel this year for the 15th anniversary for Sailor Moon!!!!

Anyways just wanted to let everyone! I've gotta go back and finish printing and re-stocking all my stickers, buttons, magnets and bookmarks for my artist table and get everything ready for the panel.

See you all there in less in 2 weeks!!!

Well I was right, it's not Naoko. :|

Maki Murakami the creator of Gravitation, whatever.

Can't say I didn't try. I really hope the people at Otakon tried to contact Naoko. I think I'm going to try to look up ALL her addresses on the net and send a letter out to each of them and see what happens. I would really like to know how she and her husband are doing and if she still paints, because I'd kill for my own watercolored picture of Usagi.
