They apparently want to remake Xena this year. Do you think it will be cool or will suck? P-:

If done well, could be a good idea.
Also, normally I'm for keeping a good amount of realism and not straying too far from the source, but considering that part of Xena's charm was the absolute mess they did with everything historical...

Make it a sentai-like series featuring five Amazonesses as a team, then it'll be cool or suck, depending on the particular audience. :P

They should make a lesbian Xena x Gabrielle series. It would instantly surpass the popularity of the original. But they won't. :ohdear:

Kind of pointless if they're not remaking her original show Hercules: The Legendary Journeys alongside it.

That sure would be something. Maybe start out with the first pair, then extend to 3, 5, and finally 8.

Spoiler: show
Yep, I got a 8 players diablo 2 setup for it in v1.00 and one for expansion (more like 8 amazon builds / setups he he)

ImmoZon (Immolating Arrow)
FreeZon (Freezing Arrow)
StrafeZon (Strafe/Multishot)
JabaZon (Jab)
FendaZon (Fend) OR Tankazon (passives)
JavaZon (Lightning Fury)
PlagueZon (Plague Javelin)
ChargedZon (Charged Strike)

all amazons are allowed to use any passives EXCEPT valkyrie, but must reach skill level 3 in their main skill by the time they reach nightmare, and skill level 10 by the time they reach hell. The only exception is the FuryZon, whose main attack skill comes to fore only at level 30.

For expansion characters, the restrictions are:
Non-Lit Fury using characters must reach skill level 10 before advancing to nightmare (8 for the furyzon), and skill level 20 before advancing to hell.this is because it's much easier to level up in the expansion than in vanilla d2.

for 2 players:
TankaZon (Xena, restricted to swords, no bows, no spear/javelin skills)
JabaZon (Gabrielle. Replace with FendaZon if playing Lord of Destruction )

3rd player:
ImmoZon (limited to the fire based bow skills, magic arrow allowed if playing LoD)

4 and 5: (The last two to join the main team)
FereeZon (limited to cold based bow skills, magic arrow allowed if playing LoD )
FuryZon (Limited to Javelin skills that deal lightning damage. Jab or fend allowed if playing LoD )

6-7-8 (Outers)
StrafeZon (limited to the Strafe/Multishot bow skills and magic arrow)
PlagueZon (Limited to the Poison damage Javelin and spear skills. Jab or fend allowed if playing LoD)
ChargedZon (Limited to the middle branch of Javelin and spear skills, Power Strike, Charged Strike and Lightning Strike. Jab or fend allowed if playing LoD)

woops, I did it again. ^_^'

Good news: they are going to make Xena x Gabrielle relationships more explicit.

Bad news: they want to get rid of original Xena outfits in favor of realistic battle armor. And all the actresses will be different.

I'll have to see the actual costume designs before saying whether it's good or bad. :)

I hope they don't make this show a Game of Thrones knockoff. (And I have this feeling that they will, just with more lesbianism )

My problem with this isn't that Xena and Gabrielle are gonna be in a relationship, it's that they're explicitly calling her a lesbian when she was bisexual in the original series. It's insulting.

Maybe creators of the new series are bisexual-phobic? ^_^

As a fan of the original show I am very disappointed that they didn't plan to recast Lucy and Renee for another last season, episode or movie. The enging of Xena was very bitter sweet and I mean they don't always have to be perfect stories but it's definitely something major fans were dying to hear. Heck, Lucy even wanted to return but she said that she doesn't want to involve herself in a reboot and that's an amazing choice.

Xena has a lot of potential as a show, the original lacked seriousness and the history was very very inaccurate. Lucy Lawless though truly made the show stand out, she fit the role so perfectly and Xena as a warrior was intimidating as f***.

Would/Could/Should... a reboot work? Yes and No.
Do I care? Not at all
If there is something I truly dislike is reboots.

-They are a lazy way of making money because the title already has fame attached to it and it explains why most of the time they truly suck.

-I don't understand why people would want to watch something that was already made, with a new cast, a new vision, a new this and that.

-These shows are normally aimed for the fans, they won't go that big because somebody already used them as a stepping stone for newer shows. Xena, Buffy, Sailor Moon were all shows that paved the way for newer ones.

-Shows are loved because people love the actors too, I seriously cannot see Xena as somebody else because Lucy truly took that role. Replacing her is like identity theft. It seems like it tries to kill the essence of the old to replace with the new instead of continuing the saga.

-Xena's essence could carry on by putting a new character in the same universe, similar to what Buffy universe was about to do with Faith the Vampire Slayer and Ripper (two characters having their own story, which never happened for reasons besides Angel)

Does that mean that we should avoid reboots entirely? No
Sailor Moon works fine as a reboot machine, but I'm bored of seeing the same old story, change it! Buffy is sort of a reboot but it came from a movie that didn't work so it had a second life, unlike already-successful titles.

If there was another actress cast as Xena in the original show, people would argue now that [insert any random Hollywood actress here] is the only real and perfect Xena, and trying to cast anybody else to play as Xena is blasphemous - even if Lucy Lawless was supposed to get that role in the reboot. That all makes a lot of sense, duh. P-:

It could be interesting to see how Xena is reinterpreted. But it'll probably lose all the 90's cheese and the weirdly nonsensical, yet oddly charming, story lines (except the "present day" episodes. UGH, I HATED those ones) in favor of dark "edgy" stuff. The 90's version did have some dark moments, but it was generally really corny and super-over the top.

People loved it for the some of the same reasons they loved Hercules; it was generally bright and bouncy and never took itself too seriously (at least until later seasons which sort of lost the "bright and bouncy" that drew most people into it in the first place).

As for casting, they'd have to choose someone carefully. I think the right person could do as well as Lucy did, but if they don't get someone at least as good (if not better), the people who loved the show in the 90's will despise the reboot and tear it apart.

They also have to pick someone who looks strong enough to murder people with her crazy over the top acrobatics, but they'll probably go for some twiggy little swimsuit model type who looks like her arm would shatter trying to lift a sword. Then they'll expect us to believe she could actually fight off a horde of (incompetent) bandits.

But they'd probably have to do a Hercules reboot to. But 1) Kevin Sorbo is amazing at the role and 2) They'd have to stop killing and resurrecting Aeolus every season. It got old really fast.

The real weakness of the reboot is that you literally cannot replace Salmoneus. That character was one of my favorites.

Hercules was a good series, but it never reached Xena's level of popularity. I'm looking for the reboot, hopefully they'll do the franchise justice.

By that logic it's pointless for Sailor Moon Crystal to exist without a Sailor V series.

That's not a bad idea after all...

And with regards to Xena and Gabrielle being lesbians...
To me personally, I feel that Xena is straight, however her love towards Gabrielle is so special that she sees through gender/sexuality, unconditional love. That's how I see it and it's one of the prime reasons I love the show. It would be a pity if they focused on labels rather than that unconditional love. Thats just me.

With the lack of LGBT representation in super hero shows and movies, I have no clue why it would be so bad to have an openly queer Xena.

And Xena was bisexual in the original show. She loved both men (Hercules, Marcus, Borias, Ares) and women (Gabrielle, Lao Ma, and Akemi)

Trying to say Xena is a straight girl is like trying to say Uranus and Neptune were just two really really close straight friends in the original Japanese anime. Which people have been done before.

I'm not trying to say Xena is a straight girl, I just felt she was, simply my view of it. Besides, love is a very limited word, you can love pie and you can love a human being, whats the difference? Her love towards Gabrielle was different.
