The North American video distributor Discotek Media revealed on Monday that it licensed the 1993 Casshan: Robot Hunter original video anime (OVA) series. The four-part project remakes Tatsunoko's classic 1973-1974 Shinzo Ningen Casshan television anime series. The story follows a cyborg who rises against the robotic armies that have subjugated all of humanity.

Discotek plans to release all four episodes with English subtitles and dubbing later this year. Streamline Pictures and ADV Films both released this 1993 remake in North America in the past.

The same story was also remade as a 2004 live-action film by Kazuaki Kiriya, and as the 2008 Casshern Sins television anime series by the studio MADHOUSE. Dreamworks' Go Fish Pictures division released the 2004 live-action film version, and Funimation released Casshern Sins.

And i didn't think i would need a reason to buy Casshern Sins for a third time.

Good job Discotek!

The North American video distributor Discotek Media revealed on Monday that it will be releasing the entire Samurai Pizza Cats (Kyattou Ninden Teyandee) anime series on home video. According to the post, the company will be selling separate subtitled and dubbed releases of the series via box sets — 52 episodes total for the dubbed release and 54 for the subtitled edition — with pricing and number of boxsets yet to be determined.

The 1990-91 Tatsunoko "science-fiction historical gag battle anime" revolves arouund Nyankii (Samurai Pizza Cats), a secret ninja team that protects the robotic animal inhabitants of Edoropolis (Little Tokyo) from the evil ninja organization Karakara. Saban Entertainment licensed and released the series on television in the United States.

March is now my favorite month of the year and i'll be looking forward to all this greatness.

Haven't watched the dub since it's TV run on WB but i remember liking it so i'll gladly buy both sub & dub releases.

I've never seen Samurai Pizza Cats aside from the opening. Now's my chance to finally get to see this series!

EDIT: Now we can add Shin-Getter Robo Vs. Neo-Getter Robo to the list as well.

While I'm a long-time Getter Robot fan, I don't really like this one very much (don't hate it either, tho).

Gah...I actually really liked Samurai Pizza Cats. It was so stupid, and I have to admit the dub was pretty good. But then again, I really liked the dub version of Bo-bo-bo, so, yeah, probably have low standards.

The two episode difference though does kinda make mean lean towards buying the Japanese version instead of the US version...

Reportedly, the two episodes that Saban cut were only clip-show episodes, so I don't think they're that big a loss.

I might get the Pizza Cats DVD when it comes out. I've never seen the show before, but it looks cool.

New cover for the subbed set!

According to Discotek, the name change was ordered by Tatsunoko.

Discotek wrote:
The Japanese company wanted it with the original title and we can use Samurai Pizza Cats for the dubbed version which should be ready for a July release.

The Samurai Pizza Cats dub set will be coming in August, the exact date & store link should be coming soon.

Seems Australia's getting the show as well as Madman will be releasing it over there. Unfortunately they're releasing only the dub so I can imagine those who want the original Kyatto-Ninden Teyandee will be importing Discotek's set.

Great news for Australian fans. :3

Though not too surprising about the subtitled release (or lack-there-of). The Japanese version is pretty obscure, and from what I've heard, is pretty much just a generic kid's show that would otherwise be unheard of, wheres Samurai Pizza Cats is far more entertaining to watch, and is definitely a "cult" show for a reason. Discotek is likely releasing it because they're used to dealing with the really obscure stuff.

(Right Stuf link coming soon)

And we have a date & price, July 30th for $10 more than the Japanese set (which should be around $50 at Right Stuf). :)
