Yay!
I finally found out how to use the map editor but the only thing i have to do now is to find the map that were looking for, this is one of the most boring things ever but thats only because i have to reopen the rom everytime just to go to another map if only there was an easier way :(
but i have found the outer area of what were looking for map 34,so give me about a week or something cause i know that its gonna take SO long to find that map

It is not. I opened this map and there is no treasure chests. But in x076 Earth Castle, Throne room map it is. I can edit rom so you can pass to chests, but is anyone have saves on this point of game?

If the map in question is indeed #76, then the 2 items to be found in the chests are HolyWater and Life Can, I confirm this. I just modified an exit area at Usagi's home, making it transfer the player to map #76 directly, and then opened the chests. I can upload the modified ROM if you guys want to. NOTE THAT THIS CAN'T BE USED FOR REAL GAMEPLAY, YOU CAN JUST TRY OPENING THOSE 2 CHESTS.

In any case, the items weren't worth concealing like that, IMO... ^^;

That was all? Then why even bother making them inaccessible? :S Maybe the creators just forget about them.

Yup, that must be the only explanation... I'm as frustrated as you are...

Wow, and all this time I thought it was going to an item so secret and big just like the Triforce in OoT or Solid Snake in MGS2.

It's true that sometimes in this game even a pretty big bossfight gives you crappy items. ^^; I guess the item rewarding in this game is really messed up. Sometimes you get kicka** stuff out in the open, sometimes you get useless items in a very concealed area...

In any case, if someone wants to try it out...

Wow. The big secret of the chests are just simple items. XD Well, hopefully the rest of the mysteries will be solved. ...And be better. xD

Shadow Kishal is the name of an enemy found in the list if you open the ROM with Notepad.

And there are 2 endings depending on whether you were able to beat Demon Apsu with Moon's team or had to use ChibiMoon's team.

Well, well, I thought this thread would already be dead. Thanks for sticking to it! :D

First of all, some comments to the apparently already solved mysteries:
.) Thanks to SGradeFreak, we now know what is in the 2 blocked-away chests inside the earth-castle. Still, the question why one can't access them using the regular way remains. I mean, hey, you have to go there to advance the story and the chests aren't hidden at all! Did the testers forget to file a bug-report back then? Or are all those SMAS ROM-files out there broken?

And now to the still unresolved mysteries (look at the first posting of this thread for reference):
.) Using FuSoYa's SMAS Map-Editor surely is a good choice. It could solve the spritesheet-mystery, the forcefield-mystery and maybe also the sidequest-mystery. At least it could give us some hints. Did anyone already go through all possible addresses in the map-editor to see if there are any maps we haven't seen before?

.) FuSoYa also has other ROM-hacking tools available on his website (http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/ => check the left side of the page), like 'Lunar Address', 'Lunar Expand' and 'Lunar Compress'. Could these be used to bring light to the mysteries? Does anyone have experience in using such tools?

.) Checking the various other materials regarding SMAS on FuSoYa's site (http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/smrpg/info.html) could also give hints, if not answers. Especially the 'Japanese Story Script' might be highly interesting. Can anyone read Japanese to see if there are any texts that don't appear when playing the game from a (japanese) ROM-file?
Also check out the 'Items'-file. It contains the items that make up the item & enemy-mystery. So they HAVE to be there, unless the translators wanted to fool us all back in 1999.

.) And again: Does anyone actually own an ORIGINAL japanese Super-Famicom together with an ORIGINAL cartridge of SMAS? If we just had someone here and this someone would agree to take himself/herself a bit of time to play the entire original game thoroughly using his original Super-Famicom... Well, he/she would probably earn very very much fame for solving all those mysteries at once!

Greetings!
BH

I forgot to mention one more thing:
.) Has anyone maybe already contacted FuSoYa and asked him for assistance?
Yes, I know the requirements are hard (read the text on his contact-page: http://fusoya.eludevisibility.org/contact.html). :?
But maybe someone of you meets all those requirements... 8)

It might just be that the developers forgot to clean up unneeded resources used initially, or simply maintained backups of the old resources. For example, they first went for the villain Shadow Kishal, then went on to make changes to the villain and make the new one become just "Kishal", but later on plain forgot to delete the old prototype of the villain? Given how common the items found in the chests are, it might be OK to suspect the developers were that much forgetful ^^;

No, and sometimes it's quite difficult to keep track of them. Sometimes, successive hexes are copies of the same map, only the gameplay area is different in each of them when loaded.

ACK.
But if that is really the case, then why did the translators actually translate all those apparently unneeded things? Why does the 'Music Patch' reveal a completely unknown soundtrack? Why does the ZIP-file with the japanese script contain a file named 'unknown.euc'?
Of course it could be, that the translators just worked very thoroughly, even processing the parts which have been removed from the final version by the developers, but have been left there because of laziness. But in such a case, the translators would surely have left an according note inside the readme-file of the patch, or wouldn't they?

I know.
I have played with the Map-Editor myself long time ago. I just thought that there could be someone maybe who took the challenge.

Hi!
I find how to take the two chests in the throne room with the
king (in Sailor Moon Another Story)! Just to come back once time we are
in the Time-Space Door (before to beat Sin, towards the end of the
game) and thanks to the parallel worlds (when you wlak in certain
points of the floor, like the green stars) you can arrive in the
kingdom, and it's empty! So, you can take them!

See you,

Yuri.

PS: i'm making a french translation! Hard, so long...!

Can someone upload the sprites that were not found in the game?

In fact, the two chests can be taken in the trhone room once time we defeat Apsu.
But, in my translation, i've found strange things:
at first, we can find a "Cristal Necklace" somewhere", after, we can find an "angel pin" somewhere (other than the green marchand!) and this "star organ"...
For the stones, yeah, it's the two parts of the stone which make it. ("true" stone)

That single Angel Pin - it appears that if you finish the game and then immediately start a new one, there will be some leftover items/accessories in the inventory, including one Angel Pin. (At least that's what happens when playing on an emulator - I wish I had an actual console to try to pull this off with the cartridge...)

Has anybody ever seen a Nekonneru daimon in the game? In the translation patch, one of the villain names is "Neconel". But I haven't seen a single one in the entire game. A few Japanese fansites claim that Nekonneru is mentioned in one of the game-related books, and they should be somewhere in Kritayuga - but don't appear during the actual gameplay. Could that be one of those "dummied out" parts of the game, or am I missing something? (But then, the patch also contains a reference to a "JumohBlack", which isn't in the game either - however, if Nekonneru is indeed mentioned in some guide book, her case looks a bit more interesting.)

Today I have got a letter from a certain person (BH) with some interesting details concerning possibilities of hidden areas in Another Story game. I cannot say anything for sure about it right now so I just post it here. Comments are welcome. Content of the letter is below.

*****************

I don't know if you have seen this before, but I'm contacting you because I have a theory about the Super Famicom-game "Sailor Moon: Another Story" (SMAS). ...

OK, here I go:
I believe, that there are "hidden areas" or "hidden sidequests" in SMAS. I speak of "hidden", because I have the feeling that they aren't accessible due to a failure in the ripping-process (from the cartridge to a ROM-file), which hasn't been noticed. I do not own the original cartridge to check it myself, that's why I seek help. Many months ago (it's over one year now), I made some research and created the following list of facts (or better: oddities):

.) At some points in the game, you have to divide the senshi into parties. You will then play consecutively with every party that you've built before. All, except one: In chapter 5 of the game, after Chibimoon's party has defeated Anshar, all senshi gather at the time-gate. They decide to split up again. The party lead by Sailor Moon is going to defeat Apsu, while the party lead by Sailor Chibimoon is going to bring Usagi's brother Shingo home safely. As before (when the senshi arrived at Crystal-Tokyo for example), you have to form TWO parties, but you only get to play with Sailor Moon's party this time. Sailor Chibimoon's party and her quest NEVER gets playable! Why do you have to form a party for no reason?

.) In chapter 4 of the game, you can revisit all the locations from chapter 2. Turkey is the "headquarter" of the senshi and Switzerland does have a sidequest (the battle against the Dragon and Esmeraude), so apparently everything is OK with these 2 countries. The oddity lies especially in Canada. You can revisit the hidden cave there (which is inhabited by then) and can also enter the castle in the north of this village (in chapter 2 you couldn't do this). Once inside, you will notice that you are in a random-battle area (the battle-screen even has its own background-sprite) and that there is a Luna-P ball near the entrance for saving. There is nothing else to do but that's exactly the strange point: Why make the castle accessible, place a save-point inside, and give the location its own battlefield when there are no bosses, no treasures and no cutscenes at all?

.) Also in chapter 4 of the game, you have to visit the earth-castle on the north-pole (not Queen Beryl's castle, I mean the other one in the West). Inside, you will be hearing a kind of conference in the throne-room. There are 2 treasure-chests next to the throne, but you aren't able to reach them, because 4 persons block the way. You can talk with them all, but no matter what you do, no one will move away. What the heck is going on here?

.) Have a look at the folowing spritesheet (it seems to be an indoor-swimmingpool): http://mitglied.lycos.de/sozaiclub/mate ... lenbad.png
I found it on this website: http://mitglied.lycos.de/sozaiclub/down ... d=34&kid=6
Although it might not be an original spritesheet from the SMAS-ROM (it could be an edited one), it has a ☹ similar graphical design when compared to the other spritesheets inside SMAS. Is this maybe the spritesheet that makes up the "hidden area" I am talking about?

.) Open the SMAS translation-patch or a ready-patched SMAS ROM-file with a hex- or a text-editor (Wordpad will do). Now skim through the file and watch out for clear-text passages. You will find some names of items, special-items and enemies that never appear during the game ('Star Organ' and 'Shadow Kishal' to name just 2 of them). But these things have to be inside the patch for some reason. Where can they be found in the game?

.) In chapter 5 of the game you also visit Apsu's comet where you will face the Oppositio Senshi. Enter the mansion and go straight north to teleport yourself deeper inside. In this next room, you have to go southwards to get to the boss-fights, but you can also go northwards. When you do so, you will pass some archways until you bump into an entrance that you can't get through. Artemis says, that there is a force-field which blocks the way, but hey... Isn't there a way to remove this force-field and see what's behind?

.) At 'FuSoYa's Niche' (http://fusoya.panicus.org/) you could download not only the translation-patch and the map-editor for SMAS, he also had a self-coded "Music Test Patch" for SMAS there for us to download. Unfortunately, FuSoYa seems to have shut down his website. I haven't found other download-resources for the music-patch so far, which is a pity, as this patch reveals another oddity. When applied to a Japanese ROM-file of SMAS, you can play all music tracks from the game like with a jukebox. The strange thing is now, that there is one music-track that never appears in the game. Is this maybe the background-music of the mysterious "hidden area" in SMAS?

.) Every enemy from the first 3 seasons of the anime has its appearance in the game, although I have to admit that this is just my personal feeling. I haven't counted them, so this statement might be wrong as well. Anyway, two major enemies are missing: Where are Allen and Ann, the 2 aliens from the first half of season two? Their tree is here (chapter 4, inside the tower of time), but where are those who came with it?

.) If you compare the filesizes of the ROMs, you will notice that the patched ROM is about 1 MB bigger than the unpatched one. OK, this could have technical reasons (appending the translation patch and adjusting the pointers instead of overwriting huge parts of the original ROM; lower compression of the patched ROM; some other reasons...), but it might be another trace for us to follow. Maybe they messed up the ripping process years ago, and no one noticed it.

So what do you think about my theory? Any hint or clear answer is highly appreciated!

Greetings!
BH

Thanks for the info I will add though for the Tree at the Tower of Time I don't think that tree is supposed to be the Makaiju I think it even has a different name in game.

However as another mentioned the party you get to bring Shingo back home is the back up party for the boss fight.

BTW the site you posted is no longer available. Do you think you could post those screens again? Also I would love to see those enemies that were never used like the Star Organ and Shadow Kishar.

I will say this when it came to the past season enemies it always angered me at how Princess Snow Kaguya was reduced as being some minor enemy to be encountered when she should have been a major enemy with her own talking sprite and scene. She would have been an excellent boss.

No it just sends you back to where you last saved. I think you have confused it with the Demon Apsu battle.
