Hi, I'm interested in lyrics for the following songs, if anyone is able to help. I'm interested in Kana, Romaji, and translation, any of these are useful.

Chotto Runaway, a peppy song by Yuko Minaguchi (Saturn) is offered on sailormusic as an unnofficial bonus song for Saturn.
http://sailormusic.net/tracks/bonus_tracks.html

Shock Me! seems to have gained some notice on youtube as a fan-chosen opening for Sailor V, likely due to its exciting retro feel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcUy38XV29g

For this one I'm dying to know what the lyrics mean! :D

If anyone could help, I'd be thrilled. Thank you.

There's only one bit I couldn't figure out for sure, the use of the word Psychologic, so I guessed.

Additional: So far I haven't found lyrics for Chotto Runaway, but it's on Minaguchi Yuko's CD called Image. on Amazon Japan

SHOCK ME!

Translation and roumaji by Andrew Floyd

Shock me Shock me
Shock me Shock me

草木も 眠る 丑三つ に あいつが空を 飛んで来る

Even as plants sleep at midnight, he flies in the sky

十字架なんか かまえる暇ないでしょう
juujika nanka kamaeru himanai deshou
I probably don't have time to set up any sort of cross

やさしい愛がすべてだと 誰かが言っていたけれど
yasashii ai ga subete da to dareka ga itte ita keredo
But someone has said "a gentle love is everything"

このままいけば 純愛 なんか吹き飛ぶわ
kono mama ikeba jun'ai nanka fukitobu wa
If things remain as they are now, a pure love is blown off.

まして相手はすご腕のドラキュラよ Tokyo だって壊すのよ
mashite aite wa sugo ude no Dracula yo Tokyo datte kowasu no yo
Not to mention my companion is the almighty Dracula! He'll even break Tokyo!

炎 のように 燃えるまなざしで 私 を ああ 誘う
hono'o no you ni moeru manazashi de watashi w(o) aa sasou
Burning like a flame, Aaah with a look, he invites me

Shock me Shock me

黒いマントに 秘められた その魔力 伊達じゃない
kuroi MANTO ni himerareta sono maryoku date ja nai
Hiding inside a black cape, that magical charm isn't showy.

Shock me Shock me

できることなら これが夢だと 信じたい
dekiru koto nara kore ga yume da to shinjitai
If it's possible, I want to believe "This is a dream."

伝説の夜だから
densetsu no yoru dakara
Because it's a legendary night

見つめられると魔女になる あいつの罠が待っている
mitsumerareru to majo ni naru aitsu no wana ga matte iru
He can gaze at me and turn me into a witch. His trap is waiting.

冗談 じゃない 虜になんかならないわ
joudan ja nai toriko ni nanka naranai wa
It's not a joke, I won't be a prisoner to something

だけど相手はミステリアスドラキュラよ マジックだって使うのよ
dakedo aite wa Mysterious Dracula yo Magic datte tsukau no yo
But he's the Mysterious Dracula! He can even use magic!

妖しい ほど に なれた 手まねきで 私 を ああ 誘う
ayashii hodo ni nareta temaneki de watashi w(o) aa sasou
I became as suspicious, he beckons with his hand Aaah.. he invites me

Shock me Shock me

サイコロジック オールバックに まとめた 黒い髪
Psychologic All Back ni matometa kuroi kami
Psychologically, his black hair was all gathered together in the back.

Shock me Shock me

口づけたなら その腕の中 溶けてゆく

When he kissed me, I melted in his arms

満月の夜だから

Because it's a full moon night

Shock me Shock me
Shock me Shock me

Shock me Shock me
Shock me Shock me

世紀末だわ 引きさかれた バイブル 地に落ちて
seikimatsu da wa hikisakareta Bible chi ni ochite
It's the end of the century. A torn-apart Bible falls to the ground.

Shock me Shock me

もう戻れない これが運命と 感じてる

I can't go back again. I feel this is fate.

伝説の夜だから

Because it's a legendary night

Thank you so much, you're amazing!

... WOW. I thought I heard "Witch" and "bible" in the lyrics, but I never expected the song was about Dracula! This is a head trip after listening to it for so long! XD

☹. Wish I had read this thread before I spent my whole afternoon researching to find kanji for this song.

That being said it was still worth it, because Andrew Floyd's translation could use some work.
A new translation is definitely needed, so here it is:

Shock me Shock me
Shock me Shock me

草木も眼る丑三つに
soumoku mo nemuru ushi mittsu ni
He comes flying across the sky

あいつが空を飛んで来る
aitsu ga sora wo tonde kuru
Over plants sleeping at midnight

十字架
juujika nanka
There's no time

かまえる暇ないでしょう
kamaeru hima nai deshou
To arm myself with a crucifix

やさしい愛がすべてだと
yasashii ai ga subete da to
If a kind love is worth everything

誰かが言っていたけれど
dareka ga itteita keredo
Someone could have told me but

このままいけば
kono mama ikeba
Even still this kind of pure love

純愛なんか吹き飛ぶわ
jun'ai nanka fukitobu wa
Just blows me away

まして相手はすご腕のドラキュラよ
mashite aite wa sugo ude no DORAKYURA yo
My lover draws me into his arms. He is Dracula

Tokyoだって壊すのよ
Toko datte kowasu no yo
He'll even destroy Tokyo

炎のように燃えるまなざしで
honoo no you ni moeru manazashi de
With his gaze burning like fire

私をああ誘う
watashi wa aaa sasou
He invites me in

Shock me Shock me

黒いマントに
kuroi MANTO ni
Into his black cloak

秘められたその魔力
himerareta sono maryouku
Where he keeps his powers hidden

伊達じゃない
date janai
Without showing them off

Shock me Shock me

できることなら
dekiru koto nara
If I can

これが夢だと信じたい
kore ga yume da to shinjitai
I want to believe this is just a dream

伝説の夜だから

MISUTERIASU DORAKYURA yo
The mysterious dracula

mou modorenai kore ga unmei to
There's no turning back. This is destiny

感じてる
kanjiteru
I can feel it

伝説の夜だから
densetsu no yoru dakara
On this legendary night

I can't seem to find kanji lyrics for "Chotto Runaway" by Minaguchi Yuko anywhere (not even by searching in Japanese) so that may be impossible. However, I could extrapolate romaji lyrics from the song and translate by ear if you wanted. Let me know.

Thank you both, I have saved both of your lyrics. :) (Mr Shoujo, are you Andrew Floyd, or did you find them elsewhere?)

@ Elly: That would make me very happy. :)

Actually, I found many problems with your version. It's like he who must not be named did it. This may put you off from reading my comments, but I stand by much of my translation, being as direct and literal as possible. Fans deserve that.

EDIT: Rather than ruffle someone the wrong way, I must ask where you got your source for this song.

This language debate is interesting... But please be respectful, I'd hate to be the cause of a fight... Ah, and your response indirectly answers my question.

What the heck are you talking about? I translated and romanized this song myself. O___O

The kanji for the song I found by doing a quick search in Japanese for the lyrics. From there, I romanized the lyrics and then translated them.

http://petitlyrics.com/kashi/27393/

The kanji lyrics you put up don't match the ones I found online, and my feeling is that what I found on the database is probably a more correct source to work with in the first place.

That's odd because I'm checking it right now. And so far they match exactly. You did make mistakes in romanizing it, and lots of really odd things came out in translating. One part doesn't even reflect the original Japanese at all. I originally posted a line by line breakdown, but felt it was best to see where you got the text you came up with, as I had hoped it was from a decently clear scan of the lyrics from a CD booklet or something like that.

I also translated and romanized it, then listened to the song and made sure the romanized text matches what is being sung.

Attachment:
copy1.jpg
copy1.jpg [ 56.1 KiB | Viewed 2548 times ]

This is a screen grab of the lyrics from the page you found. The actual text is loaded using a Flash object while I was able to grab JIS text directly from a link for my source which even included the reader furigana for all the kanji in the lyrics.

The kanji in the screen grab have been moved only to match the length of the lines in the copy I found, and the romanized text as copied from my file, matches it.

So it appears we were able to find 2 different sources with the same text, kanji and all.

Try taking another look. Or if you really want to see it, I can put back up my analysis. Maybe that's best served sending it privately?

Really...where? And where exactly do the lines not match what's said in Japanese at all?

Unless you're talking about where I changed the position of translations so that it actually makes sense in English. As you know, Japanese syntax is opposite of ours and if I put it "line by line", as you say, it wouldn't make any sense.

In the meantime, your translation doesn't recognize that "psycho" and "logic" are two separate words - "psychologic" isn't a compound word in English.

I'm also not sure how "swept back" hair became "all gathered in the back" in your version, but you know what, I seriously don't care. Knock yourself and enjoy doing the next translation :)

I meant to ask, what does that lyric mean? Whether it's "psychologically" or "psycho logic", I don't see how it connects to the part about her hair. I found the rest of the song pretty straight forward except for that lyric in both translations.

(☹ I love this song, and knowing what it's about. XD )

I've revised the lyric a bit, the line should go:

"psycho logic is / whipping all my hair / straight back"

IDK, when I hear this line I think of a scene from Serial Experiments Lain - somebody going crazy and their hair flies backwards and they look super creepy :D

Here is one part:
_paste_
Quote:
妖しいほどに
ayashii hodo ni
In a strange way

なれた手まねきで
nareta temaneki de
That lures you in

私をああ誘う
watashi wo aa sasou
He invites me in

Wow, much of that, like, doesn't even reflect the original Japanese.
ayashii hodo ni nareta - became as suspicious
temaneki - ever see the maneki neko? The cat who beckons with his paw? This is the word for a human beckoning with their hand, the gesture that tells someone to come over.
_end of paste_

Quote:

Well, reversing the translation for the 1st 2 lines obviously showed you knew that pairs of the lines of text in the source you found should go together. It was split up in small snippets rather arbitrarily. They were not split up in the source I found, linked below.

Japanese sentence construction and grammar isn't entirely reversed as compared to English. There's reconstructing the translated parts as it might appear in English, and then there's moving things around until it doesn't even look like a translation. It's not a matter of making sense or making more sense. It's like "ah, this is where it goes."

What say you about these examples:
でかける準備ができたら 「聖華市」を歩いてみよう!!
When you're done getting ready to go out, let's try walking around Seika-shi!!

ちなみに、 Asuka Jr. はあくまでも正直に料理の感想を言いますが、佐渡はどんなものでも (たとえどんなにマズくても)美味しく食べてくれます。
By the way, though Asuka Jr. will say his thoughts on cuisine with complete honesty, Sawatari will eat anything tasty (no matter how bad it is).

If you had combined lines, and then done it like I had, the translations would probably match up. Maybe.

Quote:
In the meantime, your translation doesn't recognize that "psycho" and "logic" are two separate words - "psychologic" isn't a compound word in English.

Psychologic not being an English compound word As in "psychologic and neurologic illnesses" as an adjective?

I take it as a portmanteau in Japanese in that it doesn't mean the same thing in the way the Japanese use it. They intend it to mean something else while still using it.

Quote:
I'm also not sure how "swept back" hair became "all gathered in the back" in your version, but you know what, I seriously don't care. Knock yourself and enjoy doing the next translation :)

オールバックに まとめた 黒い髪 - The verb is Matometa - collected or gathered. "All Back" in Katakana required some googling to find an example of this being used in context.

Thankfully this time I found a page with a photo of someone's black hair all gathered together in the back. Think of that photo as the image being described in the song. "オールバックしちゃつてます"

I'm trying to help, and I'm sorry if you don't see it that way. Don't take it personally, but instead try to see why those lyrics can be translated another way.

BTW:
This is where I got the Shift JIS text that I was able to copy and paste it into JWP. It's formatted for a Flash object that displays it, so the reader furigana are at the end of each line. It's not hard to figure out where they line up.

I'm not taking anything personally. I just don't think you understand how Japanese speech is used colloquially. When someone says "all back" hair in conjunction with matometa, they mean "swept back" hair. It's redundant to include the "gathered in the back" part - that's apparent. Like this: http://www.realbeauty.com/cm/realbeauty ... ck-mdn.jpg

Quote:
temaneki - ever see the maneki neko? The cat who beckons with his paw? This is the word for a human beckoning with their hand, the gesture that tells someone to come over.

You're arguing semantics over whether or not "beckon" or "lure" is an accurate translation. Beckoning with the hand would be a very literal translation, but I think "lure" works just as well.

"ayashii" also means strange, so I'm not sure how that's not reflective of the original Japanese?

Quote:
Psychologic not being an English compound word As in "psychologic and neurologic illnesses" as an adjective?

Psychological is an adjective. Psychologic is not. This isn't an example of a portmanteau; the katakana reflect two separate words, psycho and logic.

I'm not concerned with colloquial use. I just disagree with putting words in a translation when they aren't in the original Japanese.

I also see you edited your original post in that the parts of "the plants with 3 eyes" is now gone, along with all the other bits that I originally had issues with. I saved that original post. :) When did that all get changed? I suspect after seeing my post.

You do remember this?
Quote:
草木も眼る丑三つに
soumoku mo nemuru ushi mittsu ni
He comes flying across the sky

あいつが空を飛んで来る
aitsu ga sora wo tonde kuru
Over plants with three eyes

I'll have to update my copied translations.

@ Elly: I think I get it now, that's a cool image!

@ Mr. Shoujo: you mentioned Minaguchi's cd been cheap on some website. I think you deleted that note. Was it a site that ships internationally? I'd never ask someone to buy it just do I can know what it means, so if I can get it for the equivalent of 900 yen I'll buy it and post the kanji here, if not I'll be quite happy with a by-ear translation without kanji from whoever is willing.

The note was at the top but I'll copy it here for ease of use.
The Amazon link

If you can navigate the Japanese site, you should be able buy it and have it sent to the U.S. I know Jay has done this (I got 2 Tokyo Mew Mew CDs this way!).

If or When you get it, a clear scan that can be translated from starts at 300 DPI. Hopefully the resolution won't too huge to host it somewhere.

And in case you don't go the physical CD route, it appears Amazon Japan also offers MP3 downloads. I've never tried the service, so you're on your own there. I don't know if that CD is one they offer that way.

Oh, the catalog number for the CD is PLCA-809.

YES!!!!!! Download the MP3 HERE. I am not kidding, this is the Chotto Runaway track you wanted!

I actually already have the mp3 from sailor music. But I like Minaguchi, so I'll buy the cd if shipping is available, and not insanely expensive. :)

I also see you edited your original post in that the parts of "the plants with 3 eyes" is now gone, along with all the other bits that I originally had issues with. I saved that original post. :) When did that all get changed? I suspect after seeing my post.

Oh well forgive me for correcting a mistake a made. As you can clearly see, I broke up the words incorrectly which lead to the error. At least I can go back and change things when I realize I make a mistake. It sure beats doing what you've been up to - whining endlessly and trying to prove that somehow you not understanding how to romanize katakana is any better. Making mistakes with kanji is one thing. Making mistakes with reading katakana ENGLISH loan words is kind of worse. I guess people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones?

In any case, had you spent even half the time you used arguing with me in this thread working on finding those missing kanji for the other song, I suspect that ShingoSneaker's other request could have been finished by now. I guess backbiting is what you meant by saying "fans deserve it".

So if you don't mind, instead of asking some kid to shell out money to find kanji lyrics for you to translate from, I'll get back to work on finding these myself. =\

Some drama I caused.

I'm necro-bumping this on account of I never did get anyone to provide a translation of Chotto Runaway.

That might be of interest to other fans, right?

I'd be interested for sure -- and thanks for providing context to your necro-bump. :)

I'd also love to actually hear the song in question -- the link at the beginning of the thread is broken.

And hoooooly crap, Elly really overreacted here. MrShoujo was nothing but polite and she got really catty. I normally adore Elly but this was kind of insane. The fact of the matter is that "psychologic" is indeed a real English word that has since been more or less replaced by "psychological" and it's more likely that the lyrics refer to the psychological meaning as opposed to "psycho logic" (which sounds odd in English).

You've heard Shock Me by now, did you post this before or after that? I found the link to Chotto Runaway is broken too, but back then Sailor Music was featuring it as a consolation for the fact that we never got a Saturn song. Maybe it's still somewhere on the site but they moved it?

I don't want to bash Elly directly after this proof of her having once done something nice for me, but I'm no longer fond of her myself. I don't know if you were around for her dramatic (and as you put it, insane) departure from the forum, but I have a particular reason to feel betrayed by it. As a little bit of spite, I'll share that before she edited it, she mistook the word for "crucifix" for the word for "11 o'clock." Then she tried to hide the fact that she had ever made that mistake.

Interesting about psychologic! I'm gonna look for ways to abuse that word now, lol.
