Interesting. I wonder if that means terms like "Legendary Silver Crystal," "Malefic Black Crystal," "Specter Sisters," etc will be different. Hmmm...

I don't mind having another release, honestly. I'm pretty excited. I hope these are an improvement over the last release, besides being upgraded and fancy. :innocent:

As ADV used the first, I've a feeling at least that one might have been mandated from on high.

At least they HAVE an editor now. Last time, Bill Flanagan did both, and failed miserably at the latter. I don't care if Bill is still the translator. They just need a dedicated person adapting the dialogue for it to make sense and flow well, and also for quality control. There's usually a separate person for both. For instance, Dragon Ball's (very good) translation was done by Mari Morimoto, but adapted by Gerald Jones.

I'll wait until I read the fan reactions before I buy, but I'm still willing to give the re-re-release a chance. Kodansha has changed a lot since their early days. I have no complaints about their recent releases, so I'm feeling more optimistic this time around.

Still wouldn't recommend anyone getting their hopes up for an honorific-free release though.

Why should one foreign word name be ignored and replaced with its English counterpart, but not others?

That is NOT a german word. We say and write here Diamant! in english diamond.

^ Pretty!

I'm excited about this, but just REALLY wish that they don't use honorifics...

That's some pretty unprofessional looking text editing. I'm guessing that part will be foil, and thus look better in person?

That's what I'm hoping, but the layout of the text still isn't great. I also hope that's just a low-res pic Amazon's using and the actual cover won't look that dull.

The layout definitely isn't great... And that "Eternal Edition" text at the bottom looks really out-of-place and unnecessary. To be honest, they could have completely kept the Japanese cover because it already came with an English translation of all the text. The cover up on Amazon kind of looks like fan art from MS Word.

Holographic covers sound cool, but is that all the info they released? Nothing about editorial/translation choices? Or about the bilingual manga coming out in a couple of weeks?

^Nope plus AFAIK, they have nothing to do with the bilingual editions.

Anyway, here's a look at the color pages shown during Viz's panel streamed on Twitch.

Neat, it's definitely a different translation. The sound effects don't seem to be phonetic either. Shame we can't make out more of the text. Look's promising.

It looks like they put more effort into some of the more graphic text too.

I know it's small, but "I'm gonna be late!" sounds a million times more natural than "I'm going to be late!!" as in the 2011 version.

At the bottom of the character page, I believe it says "A friend or foe???"

That's also more natural then 2011's "Ally or enemy???"

Slag yes! Things are looking up for this translation! Now if they could just switch "Guardian" back to "Soldier" it'd be near-perfect.[/nonseriouswishfulthinking] :P

Am I the only one who hopes they use Diamond, Emerald, etc for the Black Moon clan? I always felt it just sounds and feels much better than Demand, Safir, etc

That's not their names, though. You might as well also want Rubeus to be "Ruby" to fit that trend.

Yeah. I mean, I don't care for Demand, Saphir, or Esmeraud myself because they're a little ~fussy~ if you know what I mean, but they're what Naoko intended and a proper translation needs to reflect authorial intent, not make stylistic changes just because.

I'm kinda confused since there is no topic referring to that, or I just missed it (sorry if that's the case).
Starting January 2018, the so far Japan exclusive Perfect Edition of the Sailor Moon Manga will be released as the so called Eternal Edition (preorders are up on Amazon i.e.) with the second volume targeted for the end of May.

Any thoughts on that?
