Throughout the Sailor Moon anime series, we've seen major enemies (and I say major, because the following weren't simple henchmen.) that only lived for one episode/movie. Yes, some of them were seen for more than one episode, but when they're "up at bat" so to speak, they get wasted fast(like most manga villains). At times, the excuse is because of the plot needing to advance quicker(ex. The remaining Witches). Or, because the enemy was a ticking time bomb and needed to be stopped immediately(ex. Pharaoh 90).

My question is, what would you do with these unfortunate villains that had a lot of potential to live as long as the rest. Push the "if these enemies lived longer, the series would drag on!" mentality out of your mind for a minute and answer with your own possibilities.

I'll start with my second favorite season(Sailor Moon S), and it's roster of baddies:

Pharaoh 90 - Leader of the Death Busters. Extremely powerful and could only be taken down by the SMU's finest(Moon and Saturn). With everything on the line, I could understand why the strongest villain in the season had to be defeated quickly. Pharaoh 90 doesn't have a personality and only has destruction on it's mind. If I could extend 90's time, then I would love to see a long drawn out battle inside it's core, along with Sailor Saturn and Holy Grail Sailor Moon. While the confrontation worked wonders, a battle would be nice to see too.

Telulu - 3rd Witch in the line up. Most of us cheered her on for wasting Mimet. However, she didn't get a very long career. Seeing how ruthless she can be, I would of loved to see her get a long episode run. Then again, maybe that's my love for plant girls talking.

Viluy - Same as above, but would of been interesting to see last a while. Mostly because of her feisty attitude and disliking of Kaori(which always makes for good comedy and tension). Not to mention, she's quite intelligent(for the most part.). I see a lot of cunning episodes in a possible run.

Cyprine/Petirol - Two heads are better than one. While we didn't get to see much of a character study, the "last and greatest witch" of the Witches 5 put on one hell of a show. Their combination would of executed fast pace episodes. Cyprine is also rather cunning, would of been cool to see her (and Petirol) wandering around Tokyo messing with the helpless citizens in unison fashion. Doing the ol' twin routine in public, except in a more brilliant way.

You can state and discuss the above, including the movies villains like Kisenian Flower, Snow Kaguya, and Badiyanu(which I will get to in the next post. What if they were in a series....what direction would you take them?)

I have to say, S is by far the oddest season. I mean, anyone reading the manga would be like "WTF is going on with these anime people?!" We see the talismans early on, we meet all the witches early on and Kaorinite is speaking with Master Pharaoh 90 early on. Plus, Chibi-Usa was around from the get-go.

I think the anime writers really f***ed themselves over by having Kaorinite be the starter villain. They should have spread the episodes between four of the five (uh... six actually) witches and then have the twin witches in a two-part episode (similar to the Usagi-centric Kaorinite showdown eppy). I really loved Eudial and felt she had the BEST arc in the anime (the most hilarious and greatest moments happened while she was the main baddie: the arrival of Chibi-Usa, the tea ceremony episode, the foreigners party episode and Neptune/Uranus' talismans appear) and fear that if she'd been bumped up to where she was in the manga... she wouldn't have had a good arc.

I'm not sure how well I would have taken to Tellu and Viluy. Mimete was cute and funny so I could forgive (sort of) what she did to Eudial... but Tellu and Villuy were b***es and didn't mind them getting killed off so quickly. But like I said, they should have evenly spread out their episodes. All other seasons did this perfectly (well... Kunzite got shafted with Endymion showing up and the Ayakashi sisters got jipped because of the first arc of the anime) but S did it weirdly. It's not like Takeuchi just suddenly invented these bad guys either... she did concept sketches for them prior to writing and I'm sure she even provided the anime guys with what storyline she was going to do.

Hey, S is my second favorite season too!

I would have loved having Tellu, Viluy, and Cyprine/Ptilol in more episodes (Tellu especially). I wouldn't mind having it drag on more -- it wouldn't even be dragging on to me because I love Sailor Moon so much. The more, the better! It wasn't really fair that Eudial and Mimete got all of the episodes. It would have been an even better season if it had shown less of Mimete, as far as I'm concerned. Regarding Pharaoh 90, I think the mystery surrounding his defeat was great. While it would have been interesting to see what went on in there, I loved that it wasn't a typical SM final battle.

As much as I love Sailor Moon, I'd hate if it dragged on... especially in S (not my favourite season ^^;;). I mean, it's not a season that has a plotline that should be dragged on forever. Once the talismans were reunited, the show should have been propelled towards the finale. They handled the beginning of the series poorly and that's why the Witches 5 got shafted:

- Kaorinite shouldn't have been a henchman
- Chibi-Usa shouldn't have been gone in the beginning of S (she should have returned in R, like in the manga)
- Hotaru should have been introduced MUCH sooner (am I right Saturn fans?)
- Setsuna should have been introduced sooner (maybe not as Pluto, but as her civilian ID)

So yeah... The anime has a lot of timing issues and I think that's mostly its major problem. They spend too much time on random victims of the week rather than developing their existing cast and strengthening the villains. That's where I come from with a writer's perspective who is coming from a 22-episode per season perspective.

As I've said on another thread before, there could be lots of happenings & events inside P90 when Saturn &, later, Super Moon were inside it - I'd like to see those.

Maybe that should be shown w/ the S movie. rantipole

BTW, all the movie villains could each expand into a new season (not necessarily following strictly the movies' storylines).

I think that should be in the R-Season...I want to change the plot for Rubeus part, because as we know, all villains can do teleport in an instant,,,so Rubeus shoudn't die with just exploding UFO..because he just need to teleport to go to other places....right??and he is really strong can defeat 4 senshis,so if he hasn't died the series will go on!!

Snow Kaguya and Pharoah 90 were amazing, personally I would have enjoyed seeing Kaguya and Pharoah 90 joining forces. I mean if Moon and Saturn needed full strength to defeat Pharoah and Kaguya wiped the floor with the senshi for a bit, think of them working TOGETHER .

I will say, I completely understand why Pharoh 90 was up and deafeated in one episode. Extending its life for the sake of more episodes wouldn't have made any sense because the thing was incredibly powerful and had they added, say, 5 more episodes would've been silly since, logically, the world would've been decimated 4 episodes ago.
I just really wish the Witches 5 had been paced better. I think Viluy would've been one heck of a contender against the combined brains among the group; she was against Ami. But then again, thanks to plotholes, she probably still wouldn't have lasted long. Still...

Agreed. Being one of Pharaoh 90's only fans, I would of accepted a two-part episode featuring it at best. 5 more episodes would be pushing it. If Pharaoh 90 had to be extended five more episodes, then it better transform into some human form and have a DBZ long battle .

But the way SMS is now came out perfectly imo. I wouldn't change the Saturn/Moon/90 confrontation any other way.



I agree. Viluy would of made the most interesting 24 hour Witch to expand on. A battle of wits with the Sailor Senshi, especially Ami, can spawn many interesting episodes. Not to mention, a build up of tension and hatred between Viluy and Kaorinite for Tomoe's attention. Not that Viluy wanted love from the good Doc(actually, we don't know that do we.... ) but she certainly wanted to prove her usefulness over Kaori. Poor Kaori-sama was being quite the sour pus, but eventually got the last laugh.

I agree with Foxy that Setsuna-sama and Hotaru-chan should of been introduced sooner. But the way things set in motion, I'd say both delivered nicely. Especially for Hotaru, who gained mega success. Not blaming that on looking cuter than the others, or having "Goth" traits either. It's because, she made quite an impact in the short amount of time she was in SMS. An amazing character, who sadly didn't transfer into SuperS, but whatever.

Ok, next post, I'll go over the movie villains and how they can pan out. Busy busy day!

Hotaru/Saturn was like a shooting star in S, forgotten in SuperS, & sidelined in Stars. *sigh*

I remember Sapphire when I think of this. His role in R was pretty much non existent, and when he finally hit the scene he was taken out too soon. I'm not quite sure if you could call him a villain, but he could of at least had more fighting time.

Even more so when you consider he was Diamonds brother, and shared some sort of relationship with Petz.

It's because Chibiusa destroyed the larger source of his power. And most villains only demonstrate the power to teleport back to home base... what happened to his?



He might have been less sympathetic if he were actively targetting the soldiers though... But I agree as I were rewatching it they might've developed him more. But the whole "implied" thing works nice too.

Agreed - I suppose that Saffir is technically a villain, but it's not like he was any real major threat to the Sailor Senshi.



The final three witches in the Witches 5 were almost like de facto Monsters of the Week - it would have been nice to see them a little better developed.

He couldn't go back anyway or he'd be killed by Prince Dimande for his failure. And by the way, "senshis" isn't an actual expression as "Senshi" is both singular and plural.

As for Saphir, his role was never meant to be as a major villain. Even in the manga he was clearly just a supporting role... he was the guy who thought "Hey, maybe we shouldn't do this." I think he was well-executed as a character in both manga and anime.

The one witch of the Witches 5 who had the potential was Tellu. Viluy and Cyprine seemed fairly one-note anyway. That's just how I felt about them. But Tellu could have been expanded upon a little more and gone on to battle both Jupiter (on a couple occasions) and Sailor Pluto (on a few more occasions).

The only villain of the movies who I'd remotely would have liked to see more of was Badiyanu. She seemed pretty badass. Fiore/Kisenian were too related to Ail and En to be expanded upon and Snow Kaguya was an scyphate villain for a movie but were she given more time... I would have thought her slow and incompetent. But Badiyanu genuinely seemed like a Big Bad.

He was a dick anyway. The way he treated the Ayakashi sisters, he deserved to be roasted. Pig.

Agreed there. Throughout all the Black Moon clan, he was the only one I didn't care about not being saved. Even though many people hate Esmeraude, I think she was just used and could be good, even her, and could be saved. Dimande and Saphir too, most obviously. But him? Meh.

I think it's a very Sailor Moon-esque concept for the villain to be "saved" and I'm not fond of that. I like bad guys who are genuinely bad and couldn't make it as a decent person. That's why Zoisite and Esmeraude were so fun. I think typically the most hated Sailor Moon villains are the ones who aren't healed, saved or redeemed in some way. It's refreshing in the Sailor Moon universe to see genuinely evil bad guys... they make it that much harder for Sailor Moon.

Sailor Moon always struck a balance between saved villians and genuine villians:

Jaedite = not saved
Nephlite = redeemed before death
Zoicite = not saved
Kunzite = not saved
Beryl/Metallia = not saved

Ail/An = redeemed

4 Sisters = redeemed
Rubeus = not saved
Esmaraude = not saved
Saffire = redeemed before death
Diamando = redeemed before death
Wiseman = not saved

Prof Tomoe = redeemed
Kaolinite = not saved (twice)
Eudial = not saved
Mimete = not saved
Tellu = not saved
Viluy = not saved
Cyprine = not saved

Amazon Trio = redeemed
Amazoness Quartet = redeemed
Master Zirconia = not saved
Nehellenia = redeemed (in Stars)

Iron Mouse = not saved
Lead Crow = not saved
Aluminum Siren = not saved
Tin Nyanko = not saved
Galaxia = redeemed

In conclusion, there are plenty of villians in Sailor Moon that are pure evil, but they do get overshadowed by the ones who are redeemed.

But there still are a lot of "saved" bad guys in Sailor Moon. Don't forget that Tin Nyanko was half-redeemed. Then again, all the Sailor Animamates were all good in a way... it was just Galaxia's influence on them that made them evil.

It'd be amusing if Pharaoh 90 were redeemed.

Tellu and Viluy got GYPPED in their screen time BIG TIME!
No way that the villainess who kills off Mimete (who was around forever in the season) and the villainess who is the intellectual equal of Ami/Mercury should have been shuffled off the scene as quickly as they were.
And gosh! If your going to make "baddies" as likeable as Iron Mouse, Aluminum Siren and Lead Crow were in the anime season of STARS, maybe some way could have been found to "save" them.

Naw, I liked them getting offed the way they did anyway. Besides, wouldn't that just undermine Galaxia's position as Sailor Moon's most badass villain?

I would have liked to see Fiore and his Kisenian Flower get more development. Granted, they got a whole movie to themselves, but I never could understand Fiore's unhealthy obsession with getting Mamoru a perfect flower. And I thought Fiore's sudden redemption and quasi-death happened way too fast-I would have liked him to live through the battle, maybe actually talk to Mamoru and Usagi at the end. Or have him fight the Kisenian Flower, rather than it just getting purified-that felt like an anti-climax.
And some more Kaguya backstory would have been cool.

I thought both movie villains (the ones you mentioned) were both adequately developed. There's no need to go into major flashback mode EVERY time a new villain steps up to the plate. Fiore wanted to give Mamoru the perfect flower because of their friendship to each other and Kaguya was an evil monster from another galaxy who wanted to create a new ice age. I don't see how either is too hard to understand.

Since Pharaoh 90 mostly moans and roars, hearing it say "Refresh!" will leave me in stitches.

Now, onto the anime movie villains! What would I do with them and along the way, mention how the movies could be altered a tinge, to make these extensions work. In the end, I always felt the movie trilogy was perfect. Fiore and Kaguya had a past, and Badiyanu didn't(but she had one Hell of a simple motive). Seeing how scyphate (again, proper meaning) these three were, I can see them in their own series too. However, not for a very long run. More like...13 episodes. The same amount used for Ail and En. Speaking of which...

Fiore:

After seeing the Makaiju arc, Fiore immediately reminded me of Ail and En. Heck, they're the same species(although never stated in the movie, it's pretty obvious.) Seeing how he doesn't need the Doom Tree to survive, although cannot remain on Earth very long, it would of been interesting to discover why. Fiore is obviously unique compared to the rest of his race. Plus, he isn't aware about being the 3rd survivor of the Doom Tree's long journey for a suitable planet. Going over this for about an episode or two would be interesting. Then, we can get the whole detail on Fiore's meeting with Mamoru. A treasured friendship that Fiore took very seriously. Who could blame him, the handsome alien has been alone for so long. As long as the Usagi gave Mamoru the flower plot point doesn't come into play early(although, it can be cleverly hinted since we're pretending the movies never existed.), an extended version of the Fiore/Mamoru meeting will make great drama.

Of course, there's the Kisenian Flower. The manipulative, energy sucking, planet busting weed with boobs. With Fiore searching the universe for the perfect flower, a more detailed encounter with Kisenian might not only make a great sequence(after all, she just finished destroying a planet in that flashback. She was still alive and well! No wonder it took the Silver Crystal to wipe her out. Stated: Kisenian >>>>>>>>planet explosion. What durability!) but also, might clue us in on why she does this. Perhaps it's primal instinct, but since she can talk, perhaps she can monologue more. Yes, the cats explained her process in the SMR movie, but not her origins. Besides, there could be a lot more like her. A race of parasites that just wanna ruin everything in space. Further proof that the SMU isn't small at all, who knows how many unfortunate planets Kisenian Flowers have destroyed.

Snow Kaguya:

Kaguya is quite interesting, since she did have a past that involved Sailor Senshi(more specifically, the Silver Crystal). Where Kaguya originally came from could be explained, or what her real name is. Once again, the first few episodes could explain her origins and her arrival in our Solar System. It makes one wonder, who sent Kaguya packing in the anime movie flashback? Most likely Queen Serenity herself. According to Artemis and his great memory, this was recorded on a text. Not only that, but also that Kaguya was successful in freezing Earth. Queen Serenity obviously defeated her rather quickly, but needed the Crystal's power to do so. Or perhaps Kaguya sent her Ice crystals to Earth without The Queen knowing and accomplished her task. However, upon arrival to claim it all, Earth was already recovered and The Queen sent Kaguya on one Hell of a ride. As I write this, I can picture all these events in my head. Perfect to show in an animated arc.

Once we get back to present day, the series could extend itself with Kaguya's sending Snow Dancers or perhaps new types of Ice/snow monsters after the Senshi each day(to keep traditional with the MOTD/W fiasco). All the while, Luna can build a stronger bond with Kakeru and even see more of Himeko to match the manga. But that's another story.

Badiyanu:

Dream energy from children to eat planets? Brilliant. At least, I've always thought so. Badiyanu is the most unique of the villains. Not only is her origins mysterious, but her motives are shades of gray. Would you want to live in a fake world of eternal happiness? Without a care in the world? Or would you reject it, and live real life to the fullest? I've talked to Moonies in the past who picked A., but never gave me a good reason why. Personally, I'd pick B. I'm such a goody two shoes, and knowing that my planet is about to be swallowed.... Nope!

Extended the SuperS movie into 13 episodes could work as well. Seeing how it begins with the fairies kidnapping of children from all over the world. With a series extension, I would have Badiyanu's origins and intentions made clear at the start(before the kidnapping begins). Then what I would do differently from there, is have the Sailor Senshi be aware of this earlier. Each try to prevent the kidnappings again by traveling to different parts of the world. How would they know the enemies' next target city? I dunno, perhaps Luna and Artemis can figure something out, or perhaps help from the Outer Senshi. Fat chance, right? Michiru's talisman would come in handy for the girls. Then again, see how cooperative the Outers were in the SuperS movie? I'll work that plot device in here.

Traveling around the world would be something refreshing for the Sailor Senshi. Heck, it already resembles Another Story in that aspect. Once most of these kidnappings are prevented, the fairies target the next big city......TOKYO! *GASP!* From there, Pereru, who was witnessing the whole ordeal, finally puts his foot down. Badiyanu finally shows up and the remaining episodes can share the similar setup as the movie. My only major change is, for the second to last episode, I would concentrate the entire 20 minutes to Usagi enjoying herself in her dream world. Slowly realizing little by little that this is all a farce and that she wants to save Chibiusa. I enjoy a struggle of mind and the eventual realization. Badiyanu playing puppet master, wants Usagi to believe what she sees. Nobody knows better than us, that Usagi has a strong will and heart. In the final episode, she has her confrontation with Badiyanu. Plus an intense, yet short battle between Moon/Chibiusa and Badiyanu. Top it off with the same finish from the movie(Double Moon Gorgeous Meditation ftw!).

There you have it! I've noticed Saphir being mentioned. Good choice, I'll get to him in my next post.

Picturing Kaguya sending all forms of Snow Dancers reminds me of PGSM for some reason... with the ridiculous upgrading of the villains in rubber suits. >.<

More anime human Luna. (Yeah, the story would've to be altered in order to have that.)

We would have if the anime execs didn't stray far from the manga. Do we ever get to see human Luna in the Dream Arc of the manga? I've already forgotten. I know she transforms into a human for Stars for an act.
