Ta Da!! :D

     Welcome to the VERY FIRST Re-watch Episode discussion thread of PrettyGaurdianSailorMoon.

At this time, we christen the marriage between The Happy Place and SMF into one scyphate forum- The scyphate Sailor Moon Forum Place. (TESMFP XD) We are all happy to be sailor moon fans, and if the last few weeks have been any indicator, the next few years, or however long this beautiful scyphate places lasts, will be completely fantastic.

Below are listed some varying links to watch the designated PGSM Episode. Of course, you are completely free to watch any episode at any time but please keep in mind the theme and purpose here: to watch as a group! My personal suggestion, for people who feel they can't wait- that's cool, just be sure to stay on topic with the episodes. Part of the fun is re-watching them TOGETHER. You can see them by yourself at any time, to re-discover something and sharing it with fellow fans is a warm fuzzy feeling. Like the gentle glow of the moon...or something.

Anyway! Let it Begin!
Downloadable- http://tvnihon.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26 (Thanks VampirePaladin!)

If you need another link, let me know.

READY? GAN GAN GO!!! :usagi:

Ps. It occurred to me as I began this thread that I said I would post this at midnight- I completely forgot that um, *MY* midnight is probably not the same as yours is seeing as how I live in Los Angeles California, USA. Forgive the oversight. From now on, I'll post the BEFORE or at midnight MY time. ^^; Duh V-chan...

Post 5555! How special for this occasion!

Even though I've watched episode 1 a few weeks ago, seeing it again is a pleasure. I mean, the first thing you see is Tuxedo and Sailor V in a pursuit! HOW FREAKIN' COOL IS THAT!?

From day one, Sawai-chan(her hair is gorgeous!!!) really sold her Usagi/Sailor Moon role well. A nice taste of things to come. :keke: Gotta love that Minako Poster! XD

The whole sequence with Sailor Moon against Naru mother/youma with Diclonius vectors was cheesy, but awesome!

Oh and Luna as a plushie still doesn't bother me. Love how they keep changing her facial expressions, depending on the situation.

Luna Plush: WATCH OUT! :eeklez:

xd Thanks vbabe, this is fun! Looking forward to more in the future!

In the opening, you can see that familiar Sailor V's posing scene borrowed from the anime - it's like a transformation from celluloid into the real thing!

But I can't help but laugh at her cartwheeling - its only combat-related purpose I could imagine is for distracting the (male) enemies by flashing her diaper-like "panty." :P

:rantipole: Indeed. If it were that kind of show, the panty distraction would be quite common. *nod*

:keke: Of course, you'll see more cartwheeling panty shots over the course of this great series. Once Keiko-sama starts doing it, you'll have to tie me down. Unless you want me to lose control and go fangirl. @_@

Okay! :D

Well, I hope PGSM fanboys and fangirls won't kill me for saying this but there are some things, in my opinion bad, that start with this episode and never ever improve:

Transformation sequence - very poor CG effects, awkward movements, in total very disturbing. I found it very pissing off when I watched PGSM for the first time. ^_^' The GIGA Sailor Moon porn movie featured MUCH better transformation/attacks than PGSM. In my humble opinion they are so bad in PGSM that they make the show look like it's a parody of SM. ^_^'

Fuku/wig - well, oh boy. ^_^' In her Princess Serenity incarnation, she looks much better, but this? ^_^' Yeah huge diper-panties, huge bows, plastic shoes, and so on.

Let me tell you that fukus and wigs were scyphate FAIL in this series.

What I liked about this act - Naru - quite a pretty actress, not so bad acting skills, at least better than most of the others yet to come... ^_^' The youma who first attacked her mom - not too bad either.

That's all, I think. It gets a bit better a later on!

You're right on that one. I had come across one screenshot of Moon's transformation sequence, I didn't know what it was then, and I really thought it was a SM parody ^_^'
Moon Healing Escalation! Glad she starts with it, I hate Moon Twilight Flash >_<
Well, in all honesty, I didn't like (and still don't) the first episodes ^_^' So I don't have much to say yet...
Except...

The first few episodes are at best "so hilariously bad it's kinda good". I viewed this like I would one of those old black and white horror/sci-fi movies.

On episode six, I was seconds away from quiting the series all together during the basketball scene. Who thought that was a good idea? After I got past that particular hump, I started to enjoy the show though.

You know I just realized that Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon has more panty shots then Cutie Honey The Live did.

I found Mamoru telling Usagi she wouldn't pass for a model hilarious because I believe the actress was a model before landing her role as Usagi.

The lipstick transformation item makes no sense. We never even see it again apart from when they use the stock footage version of them transforming. I mean you could say the lipstick item is for selling toys, but to me it wouldn't make much sense since you'd have to pay to make two items and package them together as opposed to just one like before.

Yay! First episode! <3

Well, I definitely agree that the acting is stiff, but, I find that sort of makes it even more interesting to see how they improve and grow with each of their characters.

Also, through all the times I've re-watched PGSM, I still can't seem to look at Jadeite's wig without giggling...

I'm okay with his wig, it is his teeth that bother me.

Six.

Cutie Honey The Live
Garo
Sh15uya
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
Zyuranger (Japanese first season of Power Rangers)
Shinkenger

My comment still stands about his teeth. Though honestly they mostly bother me because I'm a Jadeite fangirl.

Ballet fu!
although episode 2 is better at seeing that. ;>

This episode erhmm.. wasn't that great for me. I remember first time I saw it It made me really curious to check the next few, but it was pretty cheesy overall for me.

Maybe it was the big shock, but I still don't enjoy this one that much. But then again, it tried to follow the original first book of the manga(and anime), and it was a nessecery evil to present Usagi and Mamoru and that we never have to see such thing ever again XD.

Ok it wasn't that bad, but it gets so much better in the next few episodes that yeah..

Hahahaha! When you visit some, now either dead or dying, anti-SM websites, you'll see that screencaps from PGSM make their templates! Jadeite's teeth is just one example, rantipole. Yeah, very awful, blah!

I think Rika (Ami) has also got the perfect kind of teeth. :D

And I always feel that Jadeite was a big joke in the show. :quagmire:

I think you've already mentioned the point of its existence yourself. Nowadays, toy manufacturers, most notably Bandai, exert big influences, if not outright control, over the production designs in tokusatsu/anime shows. BTW, the lipstick might be inspired by the Outer Senshi's transformations.

That's what I thought when I first watched the show.

Um... I'm going to admit something here: I've watched Act 0 a couple of years back (and anything I've been spoiled about on Wikipedia or Wikimoon), and this is the second episode I've ever watched. I kept putting it back, but now maybe I'll give PGSM a go finally. I've actually got my comments on Act 1 saved, but I'd like to review it over before I post it, and I need to rest now, which I'll go do before everyone pounces on me for not watching PGSM yet.

(This should be the correct thread... I'm checking since I've just messed up a minute ago.)

For the most part, I've not just finished PGSM's Act 1, but I think I had some influence in what came to my head as I was sleeping. Not that it matters; I can't remember much of it and it's randomness that's irrelevant. But as the bulk of the message has been typed, again, aside from maybe Act 0 a couple of years ago, I've barely seen PGSM at all. I'm deciding to now. The only other Japanese programs I've recently touched (yet not for days) is [After War Gundam X] and [Turn A Gundam]. (I'm about half done of the former, and just over a fifth done of the latter.) It's been a while since I touched the BSSM manga or anime in my own re-reading/watching and I was in the middle of SMS in the anime and just beginning the SMR storyline of the manga when I stopped. Now I have to duck since I'm going to be pounced upon by others.

I'm going to be typing up my impressions as I watch Act 1 (putting them in quote boxes), and will be using the YouTube videos.

Siroh32 reviewing PGSM Act 1 - Part 1 wrote:
PGSM Act 1 - Part 1 (YouTube)
1 min. in: I like the minute-long teaser. You get a sense of mystery out of it, especially if you're a newcomer to the franchise. Not completely sure about everything, but I think it's well done.
3 min. 30 sec. in: Aino Minako a country star? Wow. (I'm referring to the poster two minutes and thirty-four seconds into the episode.) You might not get overblown animation to emphasize when poor ol' Usagi's in a hurry, but I still have to smile. Oh, and a nice house, too!
4 min. in: Ah, curiosity. I actually built up almost a pseudo-paragraph's worth on the basics of superheroes and identities, but that's nitpicking gone a bit far right now. I should enjoy the show. *hits head* And Ikuko's a softie, getting her mind side-tracked and forgetting that Usagi's more late than that rabbit from Cinderella. Edit: Cinderella? That was from Alice in Wonderland, you dope. *hits head*
5 min. in: Wow, now I know what people were talking about when it came to the CG graphics. Well, it's not bad and I can't rag on it much. It's like the cheesiness of that little Japanese DBZ film on YouTube that looked like it was made on the cheap.
5 min. 30 sec. in: Don't worry, Usagi. Other people get it worse off. Then again, I've seen examples where it's barely even brought to attention when someone arrives late. But I feel for ya, Usagi.
6 min. 30 sec. in: What happened to all the arcades in there?! Ugh, how times change, even back in late-'03. Now I can't play Virtual-On or AEUG vs. Titans there anymore! The cuts are going faster than some few popular U.S. crime shows even around that time and especially today. And maybe I should feel greatful at the moment that Usagi doesn't have a high-pitched voice. No, Kotono! I liked your voice too! Don't come after me with that!
8 min. 55 sec. in: I shouldn't go minute-by-minute in reaction. And the CGI's making me think of whatever Nickelodeon has been airing in the morning. Mamoru definately was creepy there. And if he had a little bit of makeup on there, he could make a good Vulcan in appearance. No, I hadn't seen the Star Trek Redux movie yet. "I might find it here..." "...And just take the others anyway in the name of finding the Ginzuishou anyway. It doesn't hurt if I just pretend it was a necklace someone just placed there! It looks expensive! Maybe I can get the new Aile Stri--" Okay, I'll stop. But he still has a little creepy Vulcan look.
9 min. 40 sec. in: Impressive CG with the watery hands and glowing plushie-that-isn't-but-can-be-in-a-toddler-cartoon-show Luna! Uh oh... Run! Get out of there before the slow Youma (is it one?) gets you! And here we end Part 1.

Siroh32 reviewing PGSM Act 1 - Part 2 wrote:

2 min. in: Lunch in the morning... I guess breakfast is no longer the most important meal of the day. And it disappeared in Japan! More impressive CGI. And if it's all a dream Usagi, wouldn't you want to try something wild? Maybe pull a Bill Murray/Groundhog Day on us and hope you wake up to Leeann Rimes. That's her on the poster, right? It's not? And Luna, lots of people care. Don't you worry; I'm sure you can motivate others to work on the umphteenth problem of Youma on Earth. You wanted a soldier? Go wake up Char Aznable; I'm sure he can be a good soldier. Just give him a huge shades-of-red, mono-eyed robot for him to work with.
2 min. 45 sec. in: I know it's not anime, but no going out-of/coming in-to little few-second segment thingies? Another brain-fart; I forgot the term for those... Edit: Eye-catches, right?
3 min. 50 sec. in: The music has been there, but not so prevalent yet. I know it'll come when we get there later on, but it seems you could notice the anime's musical score a little more. Yes, Usagi, you can go back to bed. Even if I'm wrong, don't resist the bed. Y'know, I remember seeing a Japanese commercial of a guy just getting up, and the sheets jump out and grab him back to the bed. The guy freaks out, gets back out, and grabs a drink that looks like a Capri-sun or something (but wasn't; I just forgot the brand name of the drink in that commercial).
4 min. in: Okay, I underestimated Usagi's will. Oh, well.
4 min. 20 sec. in: Naru's magical Youma detector's working well! I thought it would be more like, "You're freakin' me out here, mom!"
4 min. 35 sec. in: Ahahah... "Terminator 2 Redux: Naru's Day" (Run Luke, run!)
4 min. 52 sec. in: Mamoru to the resc--What? Oh, it's Jadeite with something close to an '80s hairdo. I say we need Bill Murray and the other boys in gray going through a time warp, get their equipment, and come over here in Japan for business. But don't mess with The Finger, or you'll be poked to sleep!
5 min. 42 sec. in: Ouch! Are you trying to break your rear end?
6 min. 20 sec. in: And the music's starting to rev up pretty good here.
6 min. 41 sec. in: That's a small broach...
7 min. 25 sec. in: Impressive! And instantaneous; without more scyphate music and flashy transformation stock footage with the character working her voice on overtime, to boot! But where's everyone in Tokyo? Usagi could've been seen, right?
8 min. 56 sec. in: Now the three-armed Youma can't get people? Then again, Naru's mom wasn't really putting up much of a fight just standing there.
9 min. 47 sec. in: Mini-broach and lipstick applied effortlessly? Why not let the broach do all the work? Oh well... Kotono had better delivery, but I still liked this.

Siroh32 reviewing PGSM Act 1 - Part 3 wrote:

22 sec. in: So the speech was on auto-pilot? I thought Usagi would've commented on her outfit first...
41 sec. in: Maybe you have a point, Luna: Usagi should just keep her auto-pilot on and work like most crime shows; to the point and character interaction is always about the case. No personality.
57 sec. in: Hah, I was right! Nice dancing, Usagi. But shouldn't you be going after the Youma and not avoiding it?
1 min. 10 sec. in: I just noticed something... Why the speghetti noodles in front of Usagi and not at her back? It's not like in the anime where it's so long she can potentially trip over them.
1 min. 40 sec. in: Autopilot wins! No Tuxy to drool over yet, to boot!
1 min. 56 sec. in: Okay, I commented too soon. Slow knife too. Keep your auto-pilot on Usagi, and you'll have Neo going, "Whoa." with your dodging skills. Okay, not really.
2 min. 55 sec. in: Creepy guy's an instant charming fellow. And come on! I know it was anime, but Toru managed to execute it well! I'm sure you guys could've pulled off some pretty good camera work and have him disappear after waving around the cape. Oh well; I guess I'm expecting too much. And now that you say it, Usagi, yeah... I guess I agree. But then it's kind-of like your magical girl name.
3 min. 35 sec. in: That was pretty impressive... And Beryl doesn't look as much like a witch anymore.
4 min. 4 sec. in: Excited, huh? Well, the fun's coming, same GMF time, same GMF channel!
4 min. 20 sec. in: That was a nice zoom-out ending. The rest looks like a preview for episode 2, so I'll just stop right here.
I was being too nitpicky just going point-by-point as the show went on, and turned a 20-30 min. show into a lot longer. I just need to stop that from here on in and just enjoy the show a little more and just give my overall impression. Which is this:

In spite of nitpicking and just pausing to give my two cents here and there, I liked it. I know it's after it had aired so I can't exactly hope that the show has promise or improves on this or that as it continues. And I've been spoiled by certain things, yet I still am entertained. It shows promise right at the beginning and I guess I can get sucked into this incarnation of Sailormoon.

Brushing most things aside, there are still things I would nitpick... The music is alright, and I liked the intro to the show (which looks like it can spoil newcomers to SM overall, but that's just no different than episode titles and intros to other shows). The problem in both cases is that the musical score isn't as catchy as the anime's (as super-repeatative as it can be), and I think Moonlight Densetsu works better. Even after not popping in any given version of Moonlight Densetsu, I still can recall how catchy it sounds.
Where's Sailor V in the rest of the episode? It's a good teaser, but I would've thought since V was going after Tuxy the once-again Jewel Thief and the Dark Kingdom, that she would've been spying around if she can.
The basic premise is kept but already PGSM is going in its own way. I don't think it's a bad thing, especially if you're retelling the whole Dark Kingdom story arc of SM for the fourth time. The acting here and there generally could've been done a bit better, but maybe I'm setting my standards a little too high. It's still good enough for me to stay interested in PGSM.

I'll be sure to watch Act 2 around the time it's brought up.

Well excuuuuuuuse me for not wanting my review post to be bigger than it already is.

(But to help, I discovered if you have Firefox--I'm not sure with other browsers but you can try--and a mouse with a wheel in the middle of it or an equivalent of, you can hold the Ctrl key and roll the wheel up to make fonts and images bigger, and make them smaller by rolling it down.)

Edit: [See?] :)

So comprehensive impressions  every second counts. I think this topic will have many posts.
Anyway I dont like the first episode as much, only couple of scenes when they managed to capture a true essence of the first episode of anime that I like very much of course. Usagi`s first meeting with Luna in anime was just scyphate, while here a plushie comes from the sky, it just isnt it. Although there were some moments that I liked, for instance Usagi`s arrival at school, her room is full of bunnies  and Mamoru`s comments :D but the best of PGSM is yet to come.

See!

Well, good you liked it. Your impressions are much more positive than mine when I first watched it. I was thinking to myself: "cor blimey, are those people crazy? Too blind to see this show is a *beep*"? And so on. Sailor V is shown, probably, to let us know she exists in the represnted world as an anonymous heroine whom Usagi admires - just like it was in the anime.

It's pretty awkard a first, then gets bit better mostly due to quite an interesting plot. Also, among the girls we have better and worse actresses. But it's too soon to discuss that. :)

One can always criticize its plot here & there, pointing out which parts they dislike, but nonetheless it's still an interesting plot, even if you don't like how it goes. And the credit for this all goes to Kobayashi: http://www.wikimoon.org/index.php?title ... _Kobayashi.
